MEETING THE BANGALORE RASIKAS OF THE FORUM.

Dear Bangalore Rasikas,

I am now in Bangalore and hope to stay upto 30.06.2011.

Many of the Rasikas from Bangalore have attended the Global Rasikas meet 2010 in DECEMBER 2010.

Many more Rasikas from Bangalore could not attend the Global Rasikas meet 2010 due to personal work commitments.

I would be happy to meet all the Rasikas of Bangalore during the week end[Saturday[18th or 25th] or Sunday morning[19th or 26th]

for about an hour or two in the morning and have an interaction.

Rasikas may express their views about the convinient date and place for the meet.

Kindly bring your Laptop or 4GB pendrive to have the video copy of

the Global Rasikas meet and the Video copy of the Interactive session with Sri Trichy Sankaran.

cienu, you can consider web casting the event, just for fun. Minimum requirements are a web cam and a reasonable upstream internet bandwidth. The popular free web casting sites are livestream.com and ustream.com . The procedure itself is quite straightforward, just a few simple steps and I can help out with that if needed. Just a thought.

Dear Bangalore Rasikas,

I am very happy that there is a very positive response from the BG Rasikas.

Now the date of our meeting is tentatively fixed for on 25.06.2011[Saturday] from 02.00PM TO 05.00PM.

The venue will be at my place in Sobha Tulip at JP NAGAR 6TH PHASE BEFORE BRIGADE MILLINIAM.

SOBHA TULIP IS A VERY BIG COMPLEX WITH A COMMUNITY HALL WITH CHAIRS AND CAN ACCOMADATE 100

RASIKAS EASILY.

However, we may have to pay a rental of RS.750/=.

In addition, we may have to arrange a PA system with AMP and Speakers and if necessary, Video and photographer are to be hired.

Naturally a sweet, kara and coffee or tea is to be served to all the Rasikas.

If VIDEO AND PHOTOS OF OUR MEET ARE COVERED by our rasikas, IT WILL BE NICE.If any of the Rasikas can do these, we can save some cost.

IF IT IS ARRANGED IN MY PLACE THE TOTAL COST OF APPROXIMATELY RS.5000/= IS TO BE MET BY THE

CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ALL THE raasikas attending the meet.

The other alternative is to have the meeting at Sri Cienu's house. Cinue is out of station and he has to

decide about the venue.

The tentative agenda will be as follows.

1. Sri Gopilalitha [Balasubramanian] is the senior most Rasika at BG.I propose him as the presiding officer

for our meeting.

2. Invocation song by Miss Ayswarya Srinivasan [Daughter of Sri Cienu].

3. President’s welcome speech.

4. Self introduction of each rasika briefly.

5. BG Rasikas suggestions
.
6. Serving of sweet, karam and coffee or tea.

7.A short concert with accompaniments[If possible] for 30 to 45 minutes by Miss AYSWARYA Srinivasan..

8. Speeches by guests.

9. Any other points to be considered.

10. Vote of thanks by a BG Rasika.

Even though I am a spirited young man by mind, the effect of age is preventing me to do all the arrangements for the meet alone.

I would be happy if a spirited Rasika or two come forward to help me in organizing our meet will be of much help to me.

I welcome the opinions from all the Rasikas to make our meet a grand success.

Sri. Nageswaran: Just a quick thought for an open discussion. When you organized this in Chennai last December, it was a great success and that is predominantly because you put in an enormous amount of effort on that. It was a lot of stress, loss of sleep etc. for you. I am sure you enjoyed the event and was quite happy how well it turned out.

When this Bangalore meet idea started, it was more like an informal get together but I see it is turning into a formal event which brings in an order of magnitude more organization overhead for you. Also, the mere presence of mikes and professional video-graphers add to the formality, let alone an agenda, intro and vote of thanks..

But I do see that a party of 10-20 people is vastly different from a party of 50-75 people. The latter requires considerable organization whereas the former can be managed much more informally. My own personal idea of a good time, when the group is relatively small, is to gather around and chat about music, personal intros, anecdotes, forum issues, personalities, complaints etc. and take the conversation where the group wants to take it, along with a music session or two ( with potluck for food and drinks ). The organizer/host is not unduly burdened and can have a relaxed and enjoyable time as well.

Just stating this, so you can decide on the mode of organizing this meet, formal or informal. I am not going to be there, so this is just a viewpoint from afar, for whatever it is worth. The meet-attendees need to decide and decide quickly.

You echo my feelings.
The Chennai meet was a formal one. The one Nageswaran hosted at his home the year before, though it came with the grand lunch and hospitality he and his family graciously offered was informal and had substance. The Ramasubramanians speaking about MSS and how their lives were connected to her was fascinating. Aishu gave a fine mini concert after that. The recent one in Chennai, grand as it was--though sweet Srinidhi sang beautifully--seemed like a mini-convention to me (I'm afraid I only stayed for a short time--so perhaps do not have the right to give my view!).
A meeting of like minds can have more substance. Formalities like 'honoring too many with shawls' and including several speeches tend to take away the charm of an informal session. Moreover, speeches are tiring and we say that whenever a concert gets curtailed because of them. We also speak longingly of mike-less concerts. Do we really need one for a small gathering? A video person too? Besides, a number of people have video cameras built into their cell phones.
A few years ago, Kashyap hosted a lovely meeting in Benagaluru (about a dozen turned up). Akellaji gave a scholarly lecture. Coffee was passed around quietly when Akellaji was taking sips of coffee. The aroma of bisibEle huLi anna filled the house. Sumitra and I had to leave soon after and it was a pity we could not stay for lunch. Such an event was just right, in my view. An undisturbed lecture, and a lunch (in this case, coffee and snacks and some music). Sounds perfect to me.

After having discussed with Sri Nageswaran, we are glad to inform as follows:

An absolutely informal Bangalore Rasikas meet will be held on June 25th 2011, between 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at my residence.
The address is as below:

Landmark:(s)

1) After crossing Meenakshi Temple on Bannerghatta Road, (Easily identifiable Landmark which most Cab or Auto drivers will recognise), please drive straight down the same road for a further 3 kms.
2) Upon reaching Gottigere & the NICE Road Junction, a furlong ahead (on Bannerghatta Road) is the SHERWOOD SCHOOL.
3) Exactly opposite to Sherwood School is Royal Hermitage.

Ofcourse Rasikas can bring their digicams and cameras to record the event.

AND Semmu is most welcome to bring his mridangam...

Being an informal meet, Sri Gopilalitha need not worry about presiding over the meet.

Thanks for reminding about that meet we had almost 3 years ago. It was at my friend Giri Prasad's place. Incidentally it was also very close to proposed venue. After the scholarly lecdem by Akella Sir, we all sat on floor and savored the delicious BisibeleBath prepared by his mother.

My father has been taken ill suddenly and I need to admit him in hospital today. I am at home just for a couple of hrs to organise things here before I rush off. I regret I will not be able to attend the rasikas meet. I feel very bad that in spite of living so close by I am unable to make it --anyway, all the very best - have a rip-roaring time, all of you! Enjoy yourselves!
