Sorry for the delayed review. After seeing Sri.rbharath’s contribution, I thought I can send this review
as saying goes "better late than never". Sometimes listening to a live concert is easier than writing its review. A lovely concert by SS with good accompaniments. A fasting time (bing lunar eclipse) but a real treat to ears.
The list goes like this.
1) Innum en manam- Charukesi-varNam-LGJ
2) pAhimam sri rAjarAjeshwari-Nattai- Adi (tisra gati) ShyAma sAastri & swaram in “sArasa
pada yugale”
3) Ninnu jhuchi-Sowrashtram –Adi-Patnam subramnaya Iyer- Swaram in “Ninnu Jhuchi”
4) rAmA ninnE namminAnu nijamuga sItA –Huseni-Thyagarajar-Adi.
5) Sub main-Begada by BR followed by “chidambaram orutharam hara harA – bEgadA”-
GKB and swaram in “Chidambaram”
6) 1 min ragam in Hindolam- “NeerajAkshi kAmakshi”- MD-Rupakam.
7) saravana bhava samayamidhira-Pasupathipriya-HMB-Adi.
8 ) Main-Kalyani-LS-“rAma nee vAdhu konduvo”- Thyagarajar-Adi – Neraval in “sri rAma nee vAdu konduvo” and swaram in the same line.
9) Tani
10) Adiya padhanai venRidave- Bairavi. (with chittaswarams after each verse)
Koti sUrya prakasa- Anandha bharavi
pAdippaNindhida-Nata Bairavi
vedikkayai avaL leelaigal purivAl- Ahir Bairavi
vAdiya payirena-Sindu Bairavi.
A beautiful composition by Mangalam Ganapathi. Each verse ended with the Raga’s
name and chittaswaram followed.
11) slokam “agre paschyami”-from nArayaneeyam in Kedara Gowla, Danyasi, kApi, and
KarNa ranjani followed “nArAyanAya namo mAdhavAya” a kriti by “nArayana Teertar”
Tarangam. (Good to hear nArayaneeyam mixed with Tarangam)
12) Unnaye ninaindu-Bageshree-a kriti on kAnchi mahA swAmigal by Mangalam Ganapathy
13) TillAna-pUrachandrika.by pUchi.
14) pavamAna-Mangalam.
Some concerts, one can go with confidence like Malladi Brothers or Ranjani & Gayathri. SS
concert is like this. New kritis. diction, precision, sampradhyam and the concert evidenced the musical background of their father Sri.Sattur AGS and and presently with Shri . OST.
Surprisingly, the hall was full (?!), being eclipse and working day. Charukesi varNam patented by Maharajapurams was a good start. Ninnu Jhuchi had a faster swarams and the Huseni had its poignant beauty. i never heard this simple and beautiful kriti rendered by any other artist.
Shyama sastri kriti and GKB were unheard a mixture of all composers kritis showed a well planned concert.
Begada was soaked with bhavam and it the 5 minutes Alapana was a true class. Merit mention about Kalyani ragam, a beautiful construction by LS with her “ganeer voice”. In Neraval BR. with her voice shade less powerful than than LS found it difficult but managed.
I always observed that they take the same interest in tukkadas as they show in main. No “Eno tAno” (not for the sake of).
BUG’s violin’s return on Begada and Kalyani were a real treat. Tanjore kumar stamped his class in Tani.

Was the Narayana Theerthar Tharangam also in Karnaranjani? I love this ragam. In the kambaramayanam series TNS has sung "Naaman annathu keL- Namo NaarayaNa"- a delight!

Yes, the Tarangam was in karnaranjani. (It was set to Anandha bhairavi as per the book). I too love this. I never forget Sikkil Gurucharan's last Dec Barathiya Vidhya Bhavan concert where he rendered "Vanchato" of HMB as sub-main set in the same raga.
