About the Artist

A disciple of Pt. Rambhau Bijapure, since the age of 8
His harmonium solo playing is marked by presentation in Gayaki Ang.He Is equally proficient in rendering Khayal, Thumri, Dhun, and Natya Geet

Received the title of ‘Sur Ratna’ by the Bhatkande Lalitkala Academy, Raipur in 1994, and the ‘Sangeet Alankar’ from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Miraj, in 1995.

A regular performer on Doordarshan and other private TV channels and is a graded artiste (B High) with AIR
Established himself as an outstanding accompanist with many senior artistes including Dr. Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Yeshwantbua Joshi, Pt. Ajay Chakraborty,and Pt. Vinayak Torvi.

Has been awarded a Doctorate on Tourism by the Karnataka University, Dharwad.

Instituted the Bijapure Harmonium Foundation in Bangalore.

The instrument of the evening is not what a die hard Carnatic enthusiast will go wild about . The views about this humble reed instrument is fairly well documented.Humble as it is ,The Harmonium takes on a wonderful hue, in the hands of Katoti.

What to expect from the evening
An appreciation of Hindusthani music , that will help the listener go beyond a hackneyed understanding of HM .An understanding ,Very often limited to cliches like Sruthi Shuddham and Use of Flat notes. The artist of the evening is very well educated , articulate , poetic and has imbibed a hoary style that is very pleasing to the ears and at the same time , magnetic in appeal .

This is an occasion provided by Rasayana in the form a Full length Concert opportunity to an artist who has articulated his condition as that of a willing mind in a less-willed body .

The artistry on show will be remarkable for its dexterity and sweetness.

Questions will be answered on a wide range of issues related to HM - From badhath ( slow progressive elaborations ) to the handling of closely related ragas and the importance of Cheejs ( texts that are sung / played - as different from compositions ) and many more.
