Found out about the concert a little before it began, but rushed to it nonetheless, the rushing taking me there in about an hour and thirty minutes.

There were other concerts, one by Vid S Sowmya, and the Malladi Bros' concert at Gayana Samaja (known place, closer by and also giving 45 minutes more), and also one by Manasa Nayana (unknown venue, though closer by), whom too I wanted to listen to.

I arrived in the gap between whatever was the previous item, and an RTP in siMhEndramadhyamam. Set to khaNDatripuTa, 1/2-eDuppu. The tAnam had a rAgamAlika in sahAna (by Geetha mami), in hindOLa (by Sri Gopal) and rEvati. A thoroughly satisfying use of siMhEndramadhyamam, the pallavi was played an elaborate neraval, trikAlam and totally siMhEndramadhyama swaras, and a good tani.

It was followed by a composition in yamunAkalyANi (forgot the tALam), and the mangaLam (pavamAna).

It was thoroughly satisfying, even though I reached so late.

Learnt that there is a jugal bandi concert of mami's with a sitAr next Saturday at MES College, Malleshwaram. Look forward to it!

I mainly enjoyed the laya side of this one. And you know, the way good vainikas play their music, every little detail neat and clean, always gives great contentment. It's been a while since I've heard such classic veena playing live. I think it was Sri Shankar Raman's (Aishwarya "cienu"'s guru) concert (September or October last year). I also listened to Vid Mudikondan Ramesh and Vid Shubha Santosh of Mysore in between, but I didn't find them so gripping.

Indeed, I would say a bigger yes to more concerts by ones we have! Where do you stay when you come to Bangalore?

Actually I got a last-minute push from rbharath. And only after going to the concert did I recollect that Geetha mami is Adamya the mridangist's mother! I had already listened to a jugalbandi of hers on radio one day.
