naMdakadhara naMda gOpanaMdana-Annamachari Keertan

Post by hariharan »

Please listen to the Keertan of Shri.Tallapaka annamAcArya, from the following youtube link, sung by Malladi Bros.
The song is Nandakadhara Nanda Gopanandana in the rag RagEshree/RagEswari.
The Audio Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-oitKXM ... ure=relmfu

Ragam: Rageshree/RagEshwari is a Hindusthani raga , that belongs to the Khamaj ThaT.
Arohan: S R2 G3 M1 D2 N2 S
Avaroh: S N2 D2 M1 G3 M1 R2 S (Please correct for any error)
The note PA is varjya in both arohanam and avarohanam & the note R2 is skipped/silent in the Arohona, at times, that adds beauty to this raga. The note MA is the jeeva swara and the prayoga of 'deerga Dha' and Dha-Ga
is very unique of this raga. Madurai Somu's 'Ninaikatha neramillai muruga' song in this raga is a popular devotional song.

Lyrics: (Please correct for any error)

rshankarji, Excellent presentation and again you have proved your valuable contributions to this active forum. Good wishes and my pranams.

Sir, a small doubt:
a) Is it bhOga praditE /or bhOga pradate /or bhOga predate, which is the proper word to use ? Malladi Bros sing it as bhOga praditE which I feel is correct.
b) I feel the first line of the song in the begining can be also read as "nandakadhara- nandagopa- nandana" as well as reading "nandakadhara nanda gopa[flash=][/flash]nandana", meaning son of nandagopan (ie. Krishna), adorned with (dhara) the sword 'nandaka' .

I am not the expert here - hopefully, Rajani or Keerthi will oblige.

You are correct - the ambiguity in what I posted was entirely due to the absence of a judiciously placed comma, which I have now rectified (reminds me of the importance of the book titled 'Eats, shoots, and leaves')!
