gardhaba_gana,
Thanks for the song lists of two of the GAyana Samaja concerts. You obviously have enjoyed them. After reading such good song lists (in both your postings), you know that rasikAs like to read more than one and a half lines about the concerts ;)
Please write about what appealed to you most. Hope others will add their impressions as well.
Waiting for more reviews about the GAyana Samaja series. Thanks!

The last Vijay Siva concert I attended turned out to be anti climactic (http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 6&p=195770). I was hoping that this one would be different and boy - it indeed was!
He started out with a non-varnam, and liked the opener. Vijay Siva has an excellent range in his voice and he uses it very nicely. Sriranjani was nice with a round of neraval and swarams. I really like Charulatha's accompaniment. Kalyani was treated very differently, especially the first half. A very nice return by was followed by a beautiful rendering of not-so-often-heard Tali Ninnu. He then sang a short piece and announced the raga as manavati. Then came the wonderful saveri - with an equally good return. I was hoping for rama bana - having heard his guru's masterclass rendition. Wonder why no one sings this song these days... He did oblige :) wish he did a neraval too (like his guru) which gave a hint that there would be an RTP. He then burst out to a slokam in BS - and I expected Rangapura vihara. It was rendered in typical DKP/DKJ style - which is different from the MSS style. Then came a very nice RTP in Begada. Nice to see Vijay Siva sing an RTP. The last couple of concerts at RSM - he skipped an RTP. His voice range and weaves through the octaves are indeed a pleasure to listen. Charulatha is an exciting accompanist to listen to. The pallavi was sung in a ragamalika (beautiful ahiri) - w/ only a round of swarams in Begada. I really like Vijaya Siva's post-tani renditions and again he did not disappoint including Paadhi madhi nadhi that I heard from my father as a kid. Wish he had included a few more post RTP items. The percussion accompaniment was very supportive (sorry I am tala shoonyam to add more details) - and overall a very enjoyable concert with a nice selection of ragams and songs.
