Sruthi sagar's flute concert at Bhairavi puduchery

Post by Ponbhairavi »

Sruthi Sagar’s flute concert at Bhairavi on 30th October..
Here is the youthful team:Shri Sruthi Sagar- flute.
Shri Anantha Krishnan- Violin
Shri Bharadwaj- Mrudangam
Shri Harihara Subramanian- Ghatam.
Selvi-Keerthana- tambura.
The items of the concert were:
-Chalame- Nattaikurinjee varnam
-Endha nechina –Saveri
-Sangeetha gnanamu –Dhanyasi (R,S)
-Sabapathiku-abhogi (R, S)
-Yendhuku nirdaya-Harikamboji (R,N,S )
-Chinnanadena- kalanidhi
-Birana brova ide-Kalyani (R,N,S)- Adi tisra nadai- thani
-Parukulle nalla nadu- Jonpuri
-Sollavallayo kiliye- ragamalikai
-Muthukrishnan- oothukadu chenchuriti
-Tirupugazh-
-Mangalam.

Nattaikurinjee gave a good start. Dhanyasi was brightly etched in a crisp alapana.Sabapathiku was very beautifully rendered. The best item of the concert was harikamboji for which he gave a 10mts alapana.. In the tight rope walk the raga came out in its own swarupa without any infection of kamboji or kamas.. The swaras were fast and fluent.Shri sruthi Sagar was in ebullient form. His lung power was amazing and there was never a single momentof sagging or pisuru during this 3 hours concert. Chinnanadena was the accelerator preceding a relaxed and superb kalyani In this adi tala tisra nadai kirthanai of Tharangambadi Panchanadha iyer, he wove intricate swara patterns showing his mastery over the rhythm and Anantha Krishnan aptly reciprocated in violin. The mridangam and ghatam accompaniment were adequate. Two Bharathis and one lilting oothukadu in chenchuriti and a tirupugazh brought the concert to the end. It appears that Sruthi sagar is a disciple of Bala Sai now under the tutelage of Dr Sundar. He was totally relaxed, swinging and swaying in gay abandon. Considering his young age he will carry the baton of T.R.M. and Ramani lineage.
The flautist’s sister keerthana besides wielding the tambura provided subdued vocal transcription to the kirthanas in her sweet voice with perfect unison with the flute. Many veena artists sing along with their instrument, so also many violinists like M.C. , Ganesh Kumaresh etc.I have not heard it with flute. It must be said that this duetting cast an enchanting spell over the audience and took it to a yogic level of suganubhava.. This novelty deserves to be properly developed and is bound to bring great success.

Nice to hear about your monthly series. The enta nerchina - patnam's saveri is almost out of circulation in performing circles. Unlike vocal , blowing flute for 3 hours concert is quite an achievement .

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Keerthana was a member of rasikas.

Rajesh
endha neRchina noted. He did not resort to lower sthayee even for shortspells towards the end . No long flute. The variety of composers and talam showed maturity of concert planning ( maybe his Guru Dr Sundar's influence?).
Shankar
I have no idea. the senior members of Rasikas may know better.
