Nisha Rajagopal @ BVB - live blog
Concert started with a bang - kaanada overview from the mel sthayi followed by the ata tala varnam.
A brisk Nee daya radha in vasanthabhairavi followed with an adventurous neraval at rama rama. Have never heard this tried before and there was a minor slip which didn't detract from the overall impact. A+ for idea and A- for execution.
More briskness with a short and sweet harikambodhi alap that hinted at all its melodic beauty but ambitiously oriented towards a display of vocal prowess follwed by dinamani vamsa

more briskness! poorvikalyani alap which hit all the spots but all too briefly except for a nice long kaarvai in the mel sthayi which drew some spontaneous applause - probably more out of awe than enjoyment. Gnanamosagaradha followed.

nice respite from the briskness with a slokam in punnagavarali followed by kanakashaila. Very soulfully done even calming the rambunctious BVB crowd.
Unnadiye gathi in bahudari sung neatly setting the stage for the main kharaharapriya.
A slow deliberate and steadily building alapana in progress which really brings to the fore the full open throated style of singing of the artiste..

"pakkala nilabadi" featured as main and very well presented with lot of original ornamentation and involvement.
Neraval @ manasunadalachi with some very good accompaniment by mrudangist (will find out his name - kinda looks like v.v.s.murari disguised as j.v - no offense intended to anyone

The mridangist is SAi Giridhar - disciple of M.L.N Raju (just referred Hindu).

I want to hear more about the "rambunctious BVB crowd."
The mind boggles... What are they up to?
ps... not sure you got quite the right word there, but if it isn't, then I can't think what it! And it sounds great anyway!
pps... it is the right word, after all :$ . "My bad," as our American friends say!

closing in on 6pm... This is about the time when the BVB ushers turn into shepherds and start to herd the rasikas rather than help them find vacant seats with no regard to the people trying to enjoy the concert...

this is d first Nisha concert i attended... mind blowing....just back to office....i loved the way she presented the songs...nee daya radha, dinamani vamsa,Gnanamosagaradha, kanakasaila, unadiye gadhi endru and master piece Pakkala nilabadi...it s like Yuvi's 6 sixers...hoping to catch more of this young and bright singer...
BVB was overflowing to the fullest..it s ala Aruna Sayeeram moment...Nisha has arrived and here to stay...
the only pbm i found was vocalist mike was amplified more and hence the violin got drowned most of the time...
A fabulous one.. i enjoyed this more and hoping fwd for more from Nisha

There is a recording of the brilliant Tanjore S kalyAnaraman singing the neraval for the same song in the same rama rama

Chandrasekhara Sarma on the Ghatam provided competent support indicating that he has had enough of the mini halls and is ready for some of the mail hall action
Concert ended with the ragamalika periazhwar pasuram popularized by MS.
