Thanks to both PUNARVASU and vasnatakokilam for confirming Nattai for the rendition in this uploaded Clip.

Since the alternate Ragam for this song is Gambheera Nattai, I would like to have a Video / Audio link of this song, sung in Gambheera Nattai.

TIA

Sundar & others,

You should have mentioned whose rendition it is. If the song was sung by Shri Chembai, ( which is the most authentic version ) it is definitely Gambira Nattai. If not, no guarantees, since others usually mix up both and sing. It requires lot of skill to sing without mix-up as well as to identify them. It is like trying to sing, identify & differentiate between Abhogi-Sriranjani-Jayamanohari, Darbar-Nayaki, Chittaranjani-Kharaharapriya, etc.. So don't jump to conclusions.

Though it sounds like GN, in most of the places, in one place, 'padmanabha prabho', it(bho) sounds like shatsruthi rshabham to me.That was why I thought it was Nattai. I listened to a rendeiton of Shri Chembai.

Hi Punarvasu,

I have the Audio of Rakshamam, after looking at this post.
I tried to play with the Vocalist, Padmanabha prabho did not feel of shatsruthi rshabham (Instead it is shaking with Ga and Ma) . So this is GN.
I am still novice in Following the vocalist, Please correct if I am wrong. :tmi:

classicallover,

This wrt yr Post # 6.

Never mind the Singer, all I have requested is for an identification of the Ragam - Nattai or GN - in THIS specific uploaded Audio.

We all understand the foll, only too well :
>> classicallover wrote : "It requires lot of skill to sing without mix-up ... as well as to identify them."

Many of also know that Chembai popularised this song ...
But, here let us concentrate on the topic of the this Thread ("... THIS Clip") - it is very specific, only to this uploaded Audio.

**********

In Post # 2, PUNARVASU said : "I thought it was nATTai."

However, now, in Post # 7, he writes that in most places, he thought that it was GN, yet because of a doubt at "padmanabha prabho, spl at (bho)", he thought that it was (may be ?) Nattai.

So, I am happy, that we now have a qualified reply, which states where the exception seems to be there wrt GN.
A qualified reply like this is definitely better than general stmnts such as "it requires skills ..."

PS to PUNARVASU : So, if the rendition appears to be GN at most places except at one, should the inference not tilt (subtly ?) in favour of GN, I wonder.

**********

The Thread title is very clear.
So, let us put out our guesses of the Ragam in this specific uploaded Audio, and state the exceptions at a few places if any - without getting biased by the Singer's name.

My guess ? :
My initial guess was (and still is) GN ; but I am not an expert to say if there are any exceptions, and at what instances.

The doubt arose when the person next to me, felt that it was probably Nattai ?? (but her knowledge of GN was limited, she said, and hence couldn't compare GN vs Nattai).

Recently, in other threads, I have seen members (like Ranganayaki) discuss the Ragams' identification, citing what Swarams have been used ...
