workshop on annamacharya kritis at MA

Post by malavi »

Music Academy had arranged a workshop on Annamacharya kritis on 24th,25th and 26th nov. by Sri.Ndunuri Krishnamoorthy. Thanks to the two sponsers Dr.Malathy Rangaswamy and smt.Nirmala Bhaktavatsalam, we had a memorable three days of music.it was an unexpected treat for those who attended the workshop to learn directly from sri.Nedunuri sir.
on the first day he taught a kriti in karaharapriya and a ragamalika.sri.pappu venugopal rao explained the meanings of the songs. After the kritis sri.Nedunuri sir did alapana in karaharapriya and explained in detail to the students how it should be sung.He shared his experiences and thoughts with us.He sressed the importance of regular practice.learning a new kriti each day is not important.
on the 2nd day he taught us 3 kritis in ragas Dharmavathi,Behag and Kapi and he explainedd in what way those kritis were important as sri.venugopal was not present on that day.
Thefinal day of the work shop was very lively with the Malladi brothers joining their guru.the items that day were a rare Thyagaraja kriti in raga balahamsa and a Bhadrachala Ramadas kriti in khamas. He explained in detail raga balahamsa.the way guru and sishyas get along is really wonderful. the moment they came on the stage he was so happy and while teaching he says when these people are here i get new ideas. This sangati came to my mind just now.they also enjoy whatever he says.
on the whole the three day workshop was very educative and interesting. The advaced course students would definitely benefit from this.few of our junior musicians attended and we were allowed to record the same.

Yes, it is very nice seeing Sri Nedunuri with Malladis on stage. The rapport is excellent. Malladis are indeed very fortunate to have learnt from their father, Sri Nedunuri, Sri Voleti and the Great Guru Dr. Pani..
I get the same feeling when I see Pt Jasraj with Sanjeev abhyankar on stage.. Superb rapport
