Dear Rasikas,
I was listening to the veena concert of Smt.Rajeshwari Padmanaban on the AIR A station on Sunday ( 13.11.2011). The person who was announcing the songs each time had made many errors while doing so. I have taken this oppurtunity to take feedback from rasikas on this subject.
The announcer said " muthaiah bagavathar krithi in raaga nadanamakriya" but when the song came on air it was " Durgadevi" of the same composer in "Navarasa kannada"
after this krithi the announcer said " yedhuta nilachite" of Saint Thyagaraja in " Shankarabaranam" but the previous krithi in " Navarasa Kannada" was played almost till the anupallavi. Then it was stoped and the right krithi was played.
An hour of so earlier There was a broadcast of Jon. Higgins concert in FM gold. Even in this concert, the announcer had credited the krithi " Kaligiunte" of saint Thyagaraja to Syama Sastri.
It was really surprising that such errors are made over the radio on broadcasts.
Looking forward to rasikas view on this.

This is just simple "attention to detail" (in this case, the lack thereof)! I already ranted about this in another context recently... I'll just link to it instead of repeating.

Re: Errors made in announcements in AIR
We assume that an announcer to a classical music program is someone who likes listening to CM and is familiar with it. Let alone that aspect--any announcer is supposed to pay attention to what he/she has to say on air. The one in charge of the programs should not pass on to them the list of songs without going through them. We expect that person to know more about music! Then, the person who plays the recorded songs should not make mistakes about the order of things.
I agree that something announced on air is what many who listen to the music tend to believe is correct.
The best thing to do is to stick to the performer's list. He/she is bound to take care about giving correct information about songs, rAgams, tAlams and composers.
When it was all word of mouth, there was room for mislabeling. We now live in an information world, and it's easy to find sources to get it right before anything is aired that even the musician's list can be double checked.

The announcer is just a voice but they are also the public face and will be given the blame.
The name-less ones in charge of the programming or scheduling, and the techies in charge of switching the recordings should get their other anatomical part in gear!

Every industry in India is labor intensive. The announcer must be a parrot repeating what he was told to read and re-read. The program manager and the director must be vetting all the information before it is read to the public through radio. Let us hold the program manager and director responsible for this mistake.

Re: Errors made in announcements in AIR
I can relate a similar experiance with AIR, FM 100.1 programmes recently. During the re-broadcasting of the musical feature on my grand father, Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr Rallapalli Anantha Krishna sarma, in October, they were so careless as to miss two complete episodes ( out of total 7 episodes ). This meant episodes were repeated. Noticing the same, I wrote an email, appraising the programme co-ordinators about the missing of episodes, I ,also personally spoke to them over telephone. They didnt even bother to rectify the errors. Instead they went ahead and completed series. Needless to say, these two episodes were never broadcast. Speaks volumes on their efficiency ( or callous attidute ! ).
