This is another kutcheri, the classical, pure carnatic music that we all enjoyed here.
When I went in, he was singing vidamu seyave. Some one told me that it was the 3rd item. After the delightful thyagaraja kriti in khraharapriya, when he started the pUrvikalyANi alapanai, we were expecting ‘meenakshi memudham. But when he sang padmAvathi ramaNam, I was doubly joyed, as it is one my favourites. I always enjoy the pallavi line ‘jayadEva kavirAja bhOja dEva suta padmapAda smaraNam kuru mAnasa’ when rendered in a fast tempo. Even the violinist Rahul was excellent during the alapanai-return as well as during the kriti & swaras. The next item, a tamil composition in Salaga bhairavi was wonderful! Shankarabharanam alapana was absorbing, and the raga bedham to Yamuna kalyani was new (to me). There again Rahul repeated almost exactly, though briefly. After the alapana, Sri. Thyagarajan garu became emotional and spoke about 3-4 min. He said,” carnatic music is not merely an entertainment, it is rather an enlightenment. Contributions of composers from Andhra Pradesh is beyond thinking. Their devotion and musical excellence has to be experienced. Particularly about Thyagaraja, whose, compositions (composed for every incident in his life) will remain forever, yesterday, today and tomorrow. Then speaking about the kriti he was going to render, edhuTa nilichite,, he added, “ Thyagaraja writes in Nindha-sthuthi manner, tells Lord Srirama Haraami, i.e. fraud.. Such was the devotion.” The detailed rendition of the kriti followed. Percussion support by swaminathan on the mridangam, and our own Nemani Somayajulu on ghatam added further flavor to the kutcheri. Only the absence of an RTP broke the ongoing trend (till the previous day). Overall, it was an excellent kucheri.

Thank you for the review. I have not heard this krithi yet , I just googled to find this may be a probable symmetry krithi to a Model T (padavani sadbhakthiyu) krithi, the composer of this devi krithi is pApanAsam sivan .
