KRM - Zakir Hussain - Amrit - Suresh

Post by mri_fan »

Zakir Hussain has always had a special place in my heart for being the 1 tabla player who I felt could add to a carnatic concert and match any mridangam player in a tani, by following and embellishing on what the mridangam player offers. Here's a recent great example of that, with three of the top South indian percussionists. He does a great job (as does all 4 of them), throughout a fairly extensive korrapu in tisram. Points go to Sri. Ramesh for keeping the talam in tisram (even as the audience joins in clapping in chatusram)

Without having time to watch your link right now, I still absolutely agree with you.

Zakir Hussain is perfectly capable of taking the lead part, and being the biggest showman in a percussion group, but when working within the carnatic arena, he shows both great understanding and great respect and always works within the format. A real musician!

mri_fan,
Thanks, that was very good.

Nick,
I said in another thread that I missed not hearing Karaikkudi Mani of late. Here he is, with Zakir, Amrut and Suresh---the best man at your wedding ;) All so engaging.

I was not keen on all the loud hA-s and whistling from the audience.
