Dr. Panthula Rama at MUDHRA on 14/12/11

Post by CRama »

Dr. Pantula Rama presented a truly classical concert in the Infosys Hall, Bazulla Road on 14 Dec. She was accompanied by MSN Murthy on the violin, Melakkaveri Balaji on the Mridangam, and Papanasam Sethuraman on the Ganjira. The list of songs.
Ramaneepai- Kedaram, Thyagaraja
Etuabrothuvo-Chakravakam,Thyagaraja, Misra Chapu
Virutham-Azhaga azhaga-Sudhadhanyasi, Ambujam Krishna,Misra Chapu
Devi brova Samayamide- Chinthamani, Adi, Syama Sastri
Sara sara samarai-Kunthalavarali,Adi,Thyagaraja
Dakshinamurthey-Sankarabharanam, Misra jhampa, Deekshithar
Tungatheeravirajam-Salagabhairavi, Kamalesh vittal
Sreenivasa- Hamsanandi, Adi, Papanasam Sivan
Thillana-Dhanasree, Adi, Swati Thirunal

I was hearing this vidushi for the first time. Her music is really classic, without any alattal, very aethetically presented. The swaras for Chakravakam song were very intelligent combinations resting at ma and dha alternatively.- The raga alapanas of Chakravakam, Chinthamani, Kunthalavarali and a very elaborate Sankarabharanam for 10 minutes were very intelligently and aesthetically rendered which the audience very much enjoyed. The alapana of Chinthamani was excellent-for 5 minutes- I have never heard such an elaborate alapana of the ragam full of raga bhavam and never an unnecessary and superflous prayogam. The song was decorated with very enjoyable swaras in the first kalam which was very much in sync with the mood of the composition. The alapana of Kunthalavarali also was elaborate. Very rarely you will get such an alapana for this ragam and energetic swaras in second kalam were rendered which matched with the composition. For the main song, tanam was also rendered which compensated to a small extent for the absence of a RTP. Neraval was done at the pallavi and elaborate swarams with lot of kanakku were presented. The violinist shone throughout the concert with his appropriate replies and solo alapanas. The thani in Misrajhampa thalam was also very much enjoyable. On the whole there was excellent team work. Pantula's concert proves that pristine classical music sans any aarbattam will definitely be successful. A very good concert.

yes . though it may take a decade , like in Pantula Rama's case to get noticed seriously . She has been singing just like this for a long long period . One has to admire the courage of artists like her in not losing faith or hope .
