Dr.Pantula Rama was awarded Isai Peroli by Kartik Fine arts on Dec 1st this year.
Her kutcheri on the 8th of Dec, for Kartik Fine arts reminded me of a thousand splendid suns.
On the violin -Sri MSN Murthy, Mrudangam - Sri Manoj Siva and Kanjira- Alathur Rajaganesh.
She started with the beautiful Sarasijamukhiro, Tana Varnam. It was a joy to watch Murthy sir's accompaniment for this varnam, as they wound through the phrases of Arabhi together.
Sree Ganapatini sevimpa raare,in Saurashtram was sung with swarams to suit the words- vividha gatula dhittalangumani. Here she interwove different jatis with the kalpana swarams.
The jatis then were sung in all the gatis in quick succession to culminate in a beautiful korvai,
the idea was a terrific one.The kalpana swarams danced here !
Sivakamasundari in Mukhari was sung next with swarams at the ateetha eduppu.
The percussion was sensitive to the words of this song ;its effect sublime.
Madilona yocana putta leda in Kolahalam ,was sung next.
Quoting these lines ,
" padi vesamulalo rama vesamu
bahu baganucu koru "
she mentioned Tyagaraja's fondness for Sri Rama as he remarks that
he is the best among ten Avaratarams.
The ragam is a janya of Sankarabharanam.
Raghuvara nannu marava taguna in Pantuvarali ragam was sung in vistaram with the lines
Manasuna neekai marulukonnanura for neravu.Tani avartanam followed.
The Arabhi varnam hinted a Ragam Tanam Pallavi in store and it happened for the lines Girirajasuta tanaya- sadayaa Lambodara with sama eduppu for Trisra jati rupakam talam.Ragamalika swarams in Kapi, Bangala itself,Varamu, with GirirajaSuta sung in these ragams. Then they all took a reverse turn to return to Arabhi.
Eppo varuvaro in Jonpuri, Kanaka saila Viharini and then a Tillana in Hamsanandi were the grand finale.
i think the Tillana was composed by Sri.Mudicondan.
Today (Dec 14th) she is singing at Mudhra Fine arts festival - at 6.15 pm.

Ahiri. Thanks for the review. You are lucky to hear RTP in Arabhi. I have not head her music so far. Today I will be hearing her in Mudhra. You have raised my expectations about her music.

Ahiri, a review that dances (with joy)! Thank you! Sri GKB's kRti in jaganmohini, SivakAmasundari, has an atIta eDuppu...does, Sri PS' kRti in mukhAri (also starting with the word SivakAmasundari) have an atIta eDuppu too?

I have heard her sing this Arabhi pallavi in San Diego - it impressed although short in duration. Anyone who can competently sing Arabhi is worth her/his salt as a musician!
