The first ever Margazhi Tamizhisai Vizha under the Kumaraja Muthaiah Mutamizh Mandram was ushered in today at the Chettinad Vidyashram , RA Puram. This will be an annual event immediately following the JAYATV Margazhi Maha Utsavam. The opening concert was by the MASTER.

The Gopikathilakam RTP (a janya of Shanmukapriya) was just SO SWEET !!!! It was just too good. The lyrics for the pallavi being Tirupugazh was an added icing. Whether it is a thematic concert or a 2hr Tamizh concert or a regular 3hr+ concert, one is assured of wholesome and complete concert from the MASTER! Kudos to his complete dedication.

An all Tamizh composition concert is something I can never miss. 5 in 5 for the MASTER concerts this season !!!!

Ah! padam before the main in this AND Shri B Balasubramanian's concert! One wonders whether people are planning to do something different this season!
But this is good, IMO!

Gokul, in BB's concert, the sabha convener explicitly instructed him to sing a padam and a jAvaLi before the tani (to be sympathetic to people who might leave after the tani and miss the tukkadas), and again after the tani. It really wasn't the artiste's choice and he looked amused (or bemused)!

Ah! Thanks for the info bilahari! I would nevertheless be overjoyed to listen to a padam (maybe not a javali) like bAla vinavE before the main!

I think Durga and Surya were the 1st two ragas in the ragamalika.

RTP in Gopikathilakam? Wow.
It is nice to see Nagai Sriram now being featured regularly with Sanjay.

Yest it was Durga the first raga in mannupugazh...on the chalanattai ..during the swaras ....sanjay almost sang the whole Ilayaraj superhit ..pani vizhum malar vanam....
on the gopikathilagam...during Nagai Sriram's reply I was hearing only the shanmugapriya..particularly in the upper octaves....also in the thanam part..but it was no during sanjays version of the alapanai and thanam...

sanjays voice was at its best and he gave a fantastic recital. pity he finished well before the scheduled time of 8.30.

Kudos to Subashree thanikachalam for starting the concert bang on time.

On trivandrum balajis's accompaniment...pre thani was vey good. particulary his accompaniment for the arabhi piece..excellent...but post thani he was found struggling to match the nadai of the songs. played cached phrases..

Plenty of cheshtai during the all too brief kharaharaprita overview! I think i even heard a "Soiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing"

Nagai Sriram seems to have the ability to latch on to the melodic ideas of the vocalist both in alap and swaras and also embellish them very nicely . Wondering if he is accompanying Sangeetha Swaminathan anywhere!

Trivandrum Balaji sounds wonderful also (listen with headphones for best impact).
