An oustanding concert that lasted a full 3hours 10 minutes and still left a feeling wanting more.
After a typical fast swaras for Naatai, the MASTER produced an absolutely melodious rendering of Narayanagoula. This was followed by an excellent Ritigoula alapana. What followed was a soft, unhurried rendering of the Thygaraja masterpiece with typical briga flashes.
I was so delighted to hear a new Tamizh krithi as the main. This allows me to soak in the lyrics and the neraval better than other language krithis. The Mohanam alapana was so melodious and at the same time the krithi had typical brilliance of the MASTER. The neraval and torrential kalpanaswarams were a treat. The commitment by the MASTER to try out different variations is a real delight.
The RTP in Simmendramadhyam was a grand affair. The pallavi line was sung so beautifully by splitting Govindanadi and followed by Govindan-adi (meaning the lotus feet of the Lord) and similarly for the rest.
And finally it is good to see the VVS team again ! ! ! Such is the understanding of the MASTER with V and V it elevates the concert to another level.
Delighted to have attended 7 out of 7 concerts of the MASTER this season and being treated to 6 RTPs so far (except the JAYATV concert) !!!
An excellent and an outstanding concert that is 100% likely to find a place in Charsur release.

I so, so wanted to go for this one. I saw that he had a great team of Vardarajan-Venkatesh as well and had a big red circle around it. But was disappointed when I phoned for tickets in the afternoon. I spent a miserable evening not willing to go anywhere else. I hope this is the one that Charsur releases for Dec 2011 concert of Sanjay!!

Paayum Oli (Maand or Bihag?)

Sridrect, good for you! 7 out of 7. I am jealous.
When I make it to Chennai during the season, I find that it is not a good strategy to go to multiple concerts of the same person, since I would like to maximize on the variety front in the limited time. But I have always wondered what it would be like to follow the same artiste (and certainly someone of Sanjay's calibre) for the entire season...
Sanjay always gives a good performance at SPSS despite the generally poor acoustics there.
Looking forward to your report on the 8th.

I thought the Surdas bhajan was in Madhuvanti too. The Ritigowla was top-class. Sanjay's voice was in great form that day and his singing alternated between sublime and joyful/boisterous. S.Varadarajan was simply superb that day, though I somehow felt that he either did not take up the challenge or refused the take bait (depending on whose side you are on!) in the swara portions of Nannu Vidachi. I don't know the technical term for it, but Sanjay played around with Ramayya Rama at the end of each swaram pattern, and while SV followed the swara patterns diligently, he kept it fairly straightforward for the 'Ramayya Rama' part.
The only trouble with attending Sanjay's concerts these days is that I have trouble sleeping that night, since they invariably set my adrenaline pumping high!!
