Khanjira : Purushottam
The December Music festival at one of the oldest and popular sabha - Sri Parthasarathy Sabha held at Mylapore had a befitting finale concert by the Priya Sisters. Those who attended the concert would definitely agree..
1. Vanajakshi ninne kori valachi vachchiyunnadira (tv) - Kalyani - Ata - Pallavi Gopala Iyer
The Atatala varna in Kalyani was sung in both the speeds .
2. Kari Kalabha Mukham - Saveri - Dikshitir [S]
This composition of Dikshitir in Saveri was very pleasing.. and the swaras was sung in both the speeds adding to its beauty.
3. Sarasa Saama Daana - Kapinarayani - Tyagaraja
4. Enneramum Un Naamam - Poorvikalyani - Syama Shastri [ R,N,S]
Poorvikalyani was well elaborated by Shanmukhapriya followed by a composition of Syama Shastri. This happens to be a tamil
composition of Syama Shastri (though most of his kritis are in telugu..) was great to listen. A short Nerval at anbuDan unnai nAn
aDaikkalam was done at offbeat taala and also swaras in 1st speed. Swaras in Poorvikalyani were amazing.
5. Ivan Yaaro - Kambhoji - Kavikunjara Bharati [R,N,S]
Khambhoji Alaap was the 1st highlight of the concert. Haripriya's elaboration of the raaga brought out the entire essence of the raaga.
It was followed by Ivan Yaaro which the audience enjoyed. Apt nerval @ pAdattil oru mangai pakkattil oru mangai and some sparkling
swaras was a treat to listen.
6. Vaanchatonuna - Karnaranjani - Harikeshannallur Muthaiah Bhagavathar
7. Inta Sowkya - Kaapi - Tyagaraja [R,S,T]
A beautiful Kaapi allap to listen followed by a pleasing kriti of Tyagaraja followed by a fabulous tani by Patri Satish Kumar and
Purushottam. Tani was all grand and beauty. Meanwhile chits continued to pour in (10 - 12) !!!. They were post - tani requests.
8. Viruthum in Shanmukhapriya, Revathi, Bindumalini, Shivaranjani followed by
Aandavan Anbe - Shivaranjani - Papanasan Sivan.
This i guess was a request from the audience. Priya Sisters had sung this at Jaya TV MMU where their theme was "Anuragam" - Divine
Love. Rendering of viruthum infact brought tears in many who were moved by the devotion with which it was sung. Though i had
heard this on JAYA TV , hearing it live was an experience!!!

9. Nigama Nigama - Hindola - Annamacharya
10. Sai Bhajan
11. Pavamaana - Mangalam.
A concert which will linger on for a long time!!!
