Hearing Trichur Brothers has been always an extremely cherished experience for the last 3 or 4 occasions , today it reached a kind of tipping point , I am finding their extraordinary creativity especially in kalpana aspects like alapana , neraval and swaras(in sarvalaghu swaras I almost find them zoning as few of my present day favourite)
The brothers are like the intel dual core processors , two cores but one head and they know how to synchronize. In general siblings does not interest me that much , as always there is one of the siblings that always has to be extra cautious to sync up either to stepup/stepdown with the other . But these brothers are blessed with an extraordinary shruthi suddham that at times I am taken in a fast carnatic startrek journey , it is at times bit bumpy but nevertheless very very enjoyable.
Their start in patnam's navarAgamAliga is well done , I did reach half way thru the start of this brilliant patnam varnam, the sound was high went happily back to sit all alone . They also suggested to reduce the master volume which was nice. The vAranamukhava in hamsadhwani was sung with gusto , swaras were there as a typical dash that generally is there with this raga.
Ther first vilambit was in shree ragam ,the alapana rendition was a beautiful one and the rare krithi of MD was well presented with a nice diction. I particularly liked this particular shree ragam, as they applied at times the most needed brake in their joyful sarvalaghu accelerative mode. The dhenukA was a typical paramaguru delivery, semmangudi mama came as two voices .The huseni is a beautiful raga, they sang bit faster , not that really settling with the usual huseni sereneness . The popular nAnoru vilayatu was a toy krithi for them and it just passed in a joyful ride mode .

Their simm madhyamam was a beautiful presentation with quite a lot of carnatic convention bit thrown out in that excellent delivery. They started cleanly in simm madhyamam as a lovely south indian carnatic rAga , after the first 5 mins warm up, it was aesthetics that went in a total ghazal like mode .Simm madhyamam took a lot of kashmir-rishikesh tour and never reached kanchi and tanjore , But with one brother holding his voice like a tambura and another brother getting the contours of this raga in different shades was very catchy, the unconvention was gripping as I liked it for their passionate singing, it was simm madhyamam with a hindustani touch .The passion continued beautifully with ninnE nammitinayyA , the neraval was not that settling but swaras for 9 mins was actually an exhilarating performance .Their dual core -one head -processor really wetted more and more my appetite to generally hear more swaras. There was denseness of sarvalaghu swaras and violin return was kept to a minimum .
Trichur brothers were wonderful in tukkadas , the first in thillang emotively stirred as though it was like a shAnthi nilava vendum and incidentally i was pleased that these brothers can slow down and present such a beautiful thillang. The next kAna vEndAmo was slow the brothers gelled so beautifully(this shree ranjani is beautiful composition of papanAsam sivan). I could not make up my mind on sayee bhajan if it was pantuvarAli or sOhini or hamsAnandi, the reason may be just I did not latch the key phrases.
For me the star was not just the brothers , but their dad , if I could say for this kind of "racy and no time wasting " type of sarvalaghu downpour, the sarvalaghu cushion of Trichur Mohan did bring a great stability. I liked it immensely, as much as how our brilliant vellore rAmabadhran generally gives to all sarvalaghu vocal masters and in general Trichur Mohan has a body language almost like vellore rAmabhadran.
VVS rao did play well , especially the vidwan was instrumental in bringing back the simmhendramadhyam from rishikesh ^^^ to kanchi vvv and it was noteworthy.BSP gave able support . I did not concentrate that much in the tani, but noticed for significant first half Trichur Mohan was moving away from sarvalaghu to quite a bit of laya kanakku. I wish trichur mohan plays for more artists than just their sons, he is a great sarvalaghu mridangist.
If there is one irritation in the concert , it was at times the loud clapping of Trichur brothers for putting tAlam in swaras and tani .At times it is significantly drowning the mrudangam and kanjirA.Mrs YGP talked briefly about the concert and praised the artist . I was extremely pleased with their shruthi adherence , passionate singing , and for the first time good healthy mix of slow numbers that added more wholesomeness in their concert. They are easily one of the best siblings in today's concert circuit.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 10 mins.
