Gowrimanohari and kedaragaula were such most needed changes for the ears and sanjay did full justice to both.varadarajan is a violinist who is able to reproduce many of sanjay s plus his own manodharma and he excelled in yesterdays concert also. The thani by patri and venkatraman was out of the world.it was like what we say in tamil "theeppori parappadupol'.A very memorable concert.

c'mon... Give the man a break! it was kamarajar arangam... And he already did his bit by singing pranatharthihara... I was wondering if he was going to sing a "kolaveri" based pallavi.

Suresh,
Do you remember all of the pallavi line?

Hmm... I may remember the pallavi words but not all and not in the right order... :-(

Manamey iru varattum padharaadhe

Particularly enjoyed an "alapana bit" in kedaragowla where towards the end he did short alternating opposing sangatis in high and low sthayees... Varadu caught on and used the same liberally in the violin return and the audience loved it!

Not sure if i am expressing this correctly or missing the correct terminology - if so would love to be corrected/informed.

Not sure if it was intended but felt that the word "iru" was overloaded - to mean "wait" sometimes and "two" at others (as in two minds)

that was funny. Anyone actually did that during this season...? I wouldn't be surprised...

suresh,
iru also means 'be' --as in summA iru.

I still think the pallavi line had another word because varaTTum is perhaps preceded by another word. What 'varaTTum?

Anyway, many pallavi lines, traditionally speaking, have not been that meaningful--tALam structure takes over, I suppose, though Sanjay is known for singing lines from Bharathi and tirukkuRaL as well ;)

arasi madam,

The same pallavi has been sung in the past by other artists too, notably Shri KVN and I have had the same query that you had - enna varaTTum? In their versions also, there are no other words. In fact they sing it as varaTTum, then manamE varaTTum, then iru manamE varaTTum and then the whole line padarAdiru manamE varaTTum.

Thanks, Ram.
Haven't heard this pallavi line before. It's also pointless to merely consider the line without hearing it being sung!

Thank god I'm not the only one wondering enna varaTTum. I suppose it could be philosophically open-ended. :P

Sanjay sang the same pallavi in Saaveri at Unnati, 2/3 years back.
