MEERA SIVARAMAKRISHNAN-VOCAL IN FM GOLD

On 23 Jan, there was a vocal concert of Meera Sivaramakrishnan. It was a very good concert. The list of songs.
Mahaganapathe, Kanada (Ithink it is Koteeswara Iyer composition)
Chalamelara, Margahindolam,
Vadarasane guru prabhavam-Poorvikalyani, Walajapet Venkatramana Bhagavathar.

It was quite surprising for me that the famous vocalist is equally accomplished in vocal music also. The concert was of high standard, in the Vedavalli bani. I do not know if she is as student of Vedavalli. First time, I heard an elaborate alapana of Margahindolam and very good kalpana swaras for that song.The swaras for Kanada also was very captivating.

You mean to say "famous violinist" , who is accomplished in vocal music?? Not surprising, as most violinists/ vainikas/ and sometimes mrudangam artists are good vocalists too.

Yes it was a good concert. I also had the oppurtunity to listen to this.

This artist has come a long way in the conert circle. If I am not mistaken she is the daughter of Violinist Ms.Radha Narayanan. Ms.Meera's son also is a violinist Kashyap Sivaramakrishnan ( hope I got the name right.)

I still have vivid memories of listening to this artist around the early 80's in Kalasagaram at Secunderabad when she had accompanied Ramani sir in his flute concert. In fact it was Ramani sir who had encoraged her to accompany him in the concert in place of her mother who was also there. Ms.Meera was probably a teenager at that time.

She has also performed duets with Ms.Usha Rajagopalan who incidentally was her accompanist in this FM gold concert.

U R right.In the 80's Meera Narayanan as she was used to accompany all biggies of those days.I have heard her accompany Chiraveena RK,Mandolin US,Manikrishnaswamy,SR,etc.Her son's name I think is Kaushik.

It was a very good concert excellent surprise for me when i heard her name being announced as i was guessing for a long time. Excellent voice and azutham filled the entire concert supported well by the accompanists too.
