Listened to Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam, imagining what it takes to present one Kshetra Sangeetham episode, search, research, re research, when particularly Muruga (and Viji too) has a rich repertoire - Thiruppugazh, Kandar Anubhoodhi, Subramania Bhujangam..one cannot afford to miss it - I missed the earlier 1/3rd tho'

The evening commenced with an excellent talk on the glory of tiruchendur by Dr. Sarada Nambi Arooran - the history of the place and the various names that Tiruchendur is known by - Tirucheeralaivaai , Jayanthipuram to name a few, victory over Padma Suran and Soorasamharam . And then the most important part of the talk - the musical significance of Tiruchendur - the Kshetra has been sung in hymns by many saints - Pagazhikoothar , Arunagirinathar , Adi Sankara to name a few , and also many Vageyakkaras.

Dr. Sarada Nambi's informative talk set the stage for a fantastic concert to follow - excellent combination of ragams , composers interspersed with hymns and viruthams. The Neraval and Swarams in the main composition - Sri Subramanyo were rendered in the Charanam line - Satakoti Bhaskara . Before the neraval , Smt. VS aptly highlighted the beauty of the verse and the imagination of the composer by explaining the meaning - he sings of the Lord as one who shines with the effulgence of a hundred crore suns.
