Would you be referring to the annual craziness of slinging mud at Cleveland?

For once, let's not!

The new normal is craziness of slinging mud. Hope some non-normalcy prevails! ;)

Most of the crazyiness is usually only after the festival is complete, where parents who don't win prizes complain! What was the quote about letting sleeping dragons lie :)??

Well .. here's a thought. The Long Island Math Fair has this very interesting disclaimer, see http://www.continentalmathematicsleague ... nt2012.doc

" ..... However, the second and major difference is the element of subjectivity and luck involved in the Math Fair. It occurs when you are placed in a room in the Preliminary and Final Rounds."

...

" ... The subjectivity of the Fair is difficult for students, parents, and teachers to accept. To balance this subjectivity we have an outstanding group of judges, all volunteers. Most of the judges have many years of Math Fair experience. All have outstanding knowledge in mathematics. Most are teachers while others are engineers or other professionals in math related fields. The goal of all judges is to give you the best possible experience in the Math Fair. We hope you decide to enter the Fair - we believe it is a very unique, worthwhile activity and one which will help you improve mathematically."

How refreshing! Why not come right out and declare that yes, there is some element of subjectivity in the judging, we will do our best but caveat emptor.

Wishing you all the best, VKV-sir. Rising expenses just for living at home and high air fares make it hard for me to know when I will next visit UK, let alone make my first visit to USA, otherwise I should love to be there.

From a recent other thread, wasn't Pandit Ravi Shankar 90 in 2010 and heading for an even more remarkable ninety-second birthday this year?

Hope it suffices. No need for mud slinging, even if one's offspring loses---All in the name of music and our love for it...;)

Watched part of Tyagaraja Utsava on Jaya TV this morning. Certainly a better version of the TiruvaiyARu one...Saw Cleveland Balu playing as if he were in Cleveland, lost in the joy of Tyagaraja's amuda sangItam... Some things don't change. Thank you Balu for representing the spirit of Cleveland!

VKV,
You stand for the eager heart of all the rasikAs, wherever they may be, cherishing music.
Wish I were there in Rochester that evening...Not complaining--far from it, recalling my bounty of chamber music of such greats...MLV, DKP, Bhimsen Joshi...a fortunate lot we are!
Cleveland promises to be another memorable ArAdhanA, Celebrating the centenary of beloved MMI and Brinda!

CML,
Yes, looking forward to the streaming, so that we can virtually be there, every day of the festival ;)

I don't mean to start anything negative here, but given that there are three legends whose birth centenary is being celebrated, I find that the representation of the MMI school seems to be a bit sparse in the listed program. How I wish Sri Thiruvengadu Jayaraman were still alive!

I am impressed that the CACM has managed to get Pt Ravi Shankar to perform there this year. VKV-sir, someday you will have to tell me about your interactions with him in Rochester.

My best wishes for the program. My personal preference would be to see longer concerts than the many 1-2 hour kutcheris featured this year.
But then again, there are so many young people performing that I take it as a bonus.

Much appreciated ... but a new car is required this year, so air fares are out.

Looking forward to seeing you here...

VKV: Missed you in Chennai--hope to see you in Cleveland-Given I may not be able to "stay-the-whole" course for obvious reasons, which segment would you suggest--am leaning towards the opening few days.Saw the schedule but did not have time to study in detail given that there may be some inevitable changes.
let's talk when you have time.
