The concert of the above vidushi today was of high standard. The following is the list of songs.

Parukulle nalla nadu- Valaji
Vallikananvan.

She is the disciple of DKJ. Her alapanas, neravals, swarams were of very high standard. Gana sabhayil is rarely heard in concert. It used to sung by DKP. Koluvamaragada was rendered very beautifullty with all time tested sangathis rendered with precision. Khamas was also well sung. Parukulle in Valaji- somehow I am not happy with it. It has been registered in everybody's brain in Jonpuri. Why it should be retuned in Valaji. Overall a good concert.

Thanks for the succinct review, CRama. Strange to see that pArukkuLLE nalla nADu was sung in valaji. Wasn't pArukkuLLE (in jOnpuri) a DKP favourite too?

Whose composition is gAnasabhayil? Nice to see a sAranga in the list. It is becoming somewhat rare, like kEdAram. Was there any manOdharma in sAranga?

I think that Saranga song is of Papanasam Sivan. There was no alapana or swarams for that song.
When you tell that saranga has become rare, today morning Nirmala Parthasarathy in her Veena concert played Neevadanegana in Saranga.

My FM is not working.VAK sings nicely.I heard her for the first time in 1992 in a marriage concert and since then hearing her here and there.koluvamaregadha is my favorite.I too listened to the veena concert in AIR today and in fact as usual was singing along.jananininuvina and jgadheeswari ? in mOhanam; but the artist is Jayalakshmi sekar I think.It was a good concert.

It's not completely true that Parukulle Nalla Naadu has not been heard in Valaji.
In fact, DKP used to sing it in Valaji and so does Nithyasree today.
Several Doordarshan Podigai videos and some on youtube stand testimony.
I somehow like the Valaji version as well! Just FYI...

Gyana sabayil thillai is in fact a composition of Papansasam Sivan only.
Among current singers, Vijay Siva sings it now and then in his concerts. One of his early audio releases also carries the song.

This was a Brilliant concert.. I have heard this Vidushi couple of times in Chennai some years ago (Once in Ragasudha and in Ayodhya Mandapam).. Chaste music from the DKP school..

The veena artist who played yesterday was Nirmala Rajasekar and not Nirmala Partasarathy.Jayalakshmi Sekar s
concert was on 2nd feb.

I liked today's concert a lot - Geetha Raja sang the krithi Korinavara in Ramapriya. The Ramapriya was taken up for full 30 mins treatment, haven't heard this raga in recent times at all. A padam and javali to end the concert as well - the padam a totally valentine's day type ode to the husband Made my day.
