' Isai ' vizha on 4th Feb at Ragasudha

11th Anniversary of 'Isai' funtion at Ragasudha on 4th Feb 2012

The function started with the invocation song by Lalitha sharma an expert both in CM and HM, a disciple of Pt Jasraj.

In her address she mentioned this Isai organization has no president, secretary and committee members. One gentleman Mr Venki is the anchor person who gives instruction for the conduct of this. M/S Suguna Purushothaman, Papanasam Ramani bhagavathar besides host of family of music lovers were present. This function is organised to confir Isai thendral sannadh to Thanjavur Kumar the mirudhangam player. The chief guest was SK Dr. TKM
Mr Venki
TKM is playing Mirudhangam from his 8th year.
He played for Musiri at his 11th year at Coimbatore
Sofar he has played for 15,000 concerts
Has accompanied 5 generations of Guru sishya parampara starting from HKM, Sankarasivam, TNS, NSG and Sankaranaryanan.
He is an expert vidwan in Konnakol, Mirudhangam, Ghatam, Knjira besides a vocalist
Shyamala Venkatesan sister of Thanjavur Kumar is the first recipient of this award
Thanjavur Kumar has learnt from his father Thirupugazh Rama Iyer and then from Upendran.
He has celebrated his Sashti Abdha Poorthy today.
He underwent Gurukulam under Upendran for 7 yrs.
Thanjavur Kumar has accompanied all stalwarts viz DKP, Karpagam Swaminathan, BMK, besides an A1 artististe in AIR
Every First saturday of each month concerts are taking place at RA Puram.
After the Golden shawl formalities TKM gave his address.

Upendran's Guru was Thanjavur Rajam Iyer who was playing Mirudhangam for Kamala Moorthy till his end.
TKM's grand father was Nilakanta Sivan
PMI called him for the first time as Moorthy though his name is Krishnamoorthy since then he is known with this name.
His first concert was with Musiri, Pappa , PMI on kanjira .
TKM has played even 8 concerts in a day

Citaion was read by Revathi dauther of Lakshmi, and was honoured with a momento
Thanjavur kumar was confirred with Isai Thendarl with a Porkizhi by TKM
In his acceptance address he simply mentioned that the enire honour goes to Upendran his Guru.

There was an Harikatha performance by Smt Kamala Moorthy accompanied by Kalyani Shankar on violin and Shankar on Mirudhangam.
The topic was Arjuna Pasupathasthiram. As usual the entire program was filled with funs and puns besides excellent music though there were slippings of sruthi due to her age.
Kamalamoorthy casually mentioned that only Harikatha has scope for either to extend or condense the duration as her progrm started 30 mts behind schedule. KM on her arrival offered pranams to TKM by touching his feet immidiately he reacted saying he may be younger to her. But TKM is 86 and KM is 81 as there was a discussion on this before commencement of the function. The hall was full of course with Senior citizens outnumbering. In total an enjoyable evening.
