A wonderful concert by Vid. Ravi Kiran. Since the festival is a tribute to five luminaries whose birth centennary is being celebrated, he chose many pieces made popular by them

7. vellai taamarai poovil - beemplaas - Adi - Bharatiyar
8. valapu taaLa vasamaa (padam) - aTaaNaa - mishra chaapu
9. tillaanaa - kalyaaNavasantam - khanda chaapu ( Ravikiran's own composition I think - had the mudra "ravi shashi nayana")

The accompanists were Vid. Delhi Sunderrajan (violin), Tiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam (Mridangam) and E.M. Subramaniam (Ghatam). All of them performed admirably. The Tani was scintillating.

Thanks for the review. Yes, I don't think I've attended any concert of Ravikiran which wasn't wonderful. How can he do it, concert after concert? A silly question, I know

Yes it was a wonderful treat by sri.Ravikiran to his rasikas on his birthday.Earlier sri.E.M. Subrahmanyam was honoured for his getting the sangeetanataka academy award.All the four vidhwans were excellent.
Pavanaguru is a lalitadasar kriti.

What was his RTP? He usually sings it first and they are nicely worded and spaced!

Listened to RK recently in DD's Isai chAral concert with TBV and DPS.There was a telecast as well as broadcast in AIR the next day.The main was in nAttai.DPS's accompaniment was v.good.

RK played pAvanaguru in his MA concert this season with a lot of exuberance.

The Pallavi was "paadame tuNaiyena paNi manamE sadaashivanin pon". Ravi Kiran said it out first and then played. He said it was in simple Tamil and devotional in content, keeping in mind MMI's style.
