Purity on presentations, rarity on compositions, diversity on emotions and authenticity on renditions upheld the spirit of soul in Smt. VS’s concert at Asthigha Samajam(Thiruvanmayur, Chennai).
Accompanied fabulously by Shri. VVS Murari (violin) and Shri. Delhi Sairam (mridangam), smt. VS embarked the concerto with a brilliant performance on asaveri based Ra Ra rama bandish. Smt. VS phenomenally represented the essence of raga with sublime emotions and ensured to construct mind-blowing phrases during the creative-sargam passages. Sujana Jeevana (Khamas) followed next and was delivered as a marveled package with emotional and devotional frills. Having observed many concerts, I have always noticed Smt.VS’s god-gifted dynamism & adaptability to give the essence of raagdhaari without compromising the tradition and the same was felt, when smt. VS cajoled Kamas with scintillating flavors of Hindustani textures within the carnatic framework.
Smt. VS colorfully contrasted the presentation-skills in her third bandish Sundara Dharegam(puriyadhanashree). Her adoring alaaps, redolent behlawas, sparkling sargams and most-importantly, assorted gamaks attested her unlimited creative horizons. Being in her best creative zone, Smt. VS towered her creative, emotive and inventive quotients further in Narasimha nannu brovave (bilahari). The command she had on bilahari right from the ‘pakad’ was beyond words and she demonstrated multiple-alaankars ( bol-baant, bol-banav, sargam, alaaps, behlawas, gamaks, badhats etc) during her detailed presentation.
Bestowed with a divine voice, Smt.VS developed delightful raga expositions on gangeyabhushani based evvare ramayya and elaborated almost all of the unique melodic waves represented for this raga framework. Eti yochanalu (kiranavali) was the next presentation by Smt. VS – where she enabled a combined balance of superb raga illustration and expressive salutations to aesthetically beautify the presentations. Her sargam paltas was extraordinary during this presentation.
Intha sowkya (kaapi) followed up as the next recital. Smt. VS constituted an unmatched brilliance on alaap and elevated the ambiance majestically with a spellbinding rendition. Late Shri. S. Rajam tradition came alive to its best during her mano-dharma statements ( behlawas, many types of taans, bol-banav, kan, meends, paltas, pirats, bol-baants and sargams) and her spiritual voice must have easily warmed up the souls of all the rasikas. Smt. VS concluded the concert with anandha-bhairavi based mangalam.
Rasikas were completely engaged and also played a great sport in extending their instant appreciations when smt. VS casted great spells of creativity during all her improvisational cycles.
