Pl.don't fail to watch jayA T.V today @ 9 p.m in the above said programme where the veteran will be sharing his experiences right from childhood. This programme is compered by play back singer manO where he interviews icons from various fields every week especially their musical interest. The trailer itself is very alluring where TNS I think sang his hamsAnandi thillAnA.So , folks don't miss.

It was an wonderful show.ManO was at his humble best and let the veteran rule the stage. The programme was colorful like kaleidoscope.Only a multifaceted personality like TNS can enliven such a show.

In those 40 mins.TNS gave max.information about himself and his perceptions with good spacing without pushing or stuffing.Great !

His explanation about hamsAnandi was great with examples. It is always on the avarOhaNam from thAra S downwards like in needhumahima,pAhijagajanani(this ST kriti also tuned by HMB),srinivAsa,rAgadeepam (film song of IR).

His singing of viruthams in Sind bhairavi was excellent. Not to miss the nirOshtA thillAnA.

Our forumite C.Rama called and told me " is it not listening to his kutchEri?".True indeed.

Videos are here:

The recording quality is above average, not the way I would like it to be.

Jaya TV reception was average at the location where I recorded it, so I had to settle for what was available and possible. Anyway worth watching and archiving.

Eventhough audio and videos are uploaded I could not resist the urge to share my feelings about the show.

Guys, it was a wonderful programme like many of his concerts. When Mano asked do you remember the first concert experience, he narrated about his singing in Kulathupuzha as a three year old lad and that he was garlanded with a garland of currency notes and he sang one of the songs he rendered in that concert which he renders even now. It was Ayyane vaa, appane vaa in Sindubhairavi. He remembered old time classics set to lovely carnatic tunes by the stalwart music directors of that era and he covered upto Ilaya raja. He sang Mullai malar mele, Malai pozhuthin mayakkathile naan and mentioned that song as a lilting tune by MSV in the ragams Chandrakauns and Sumanesaranjini. As Ganesh has already mentioned he sang the pallavis of four songs in Hamsanandi. (In the same context, in an earlier demonstration he told that if somebody attempts to sing Hamsanandi from mandra stayi sa, it will be like an elephant forced to sit on a stool.). He sang the pallavis of Swararagasudha, Sree Kamalambikaya, Manathirkisaintha manavalan etc in his usual style with all sangathis, brighas as if he is singing in a concert where 1000s of rasikas are savouring his music. When asked about his own creations, he sang the Malahari kriti (pallavi) Dasasreshta. He said that while doing kathakalashepams many a time his creativity comes out abundantly. He sang his own thillana in Niroshta (complete) and explained about the uniqueness of Niroshta. He also mentioned that this ragam has been used in films by MSV in the song Vellikinnam than.

A few clippings of the film Thodi ragam where he sings a lovely song in Jog with Veena and also a duet where he sings a classical number with S.Janaki was shown.

Along with reminisces of old masters, he mentioned with great reverence Ariyakudi and the masters of that era who commanded a great respect and worship among music lovers. He quoted an instance. When GNB was to sing in Tiruvayyar, GNB and violinist have arrived on the dais and they are waiting for Palghat Mani Iyer. Two sishyas of Palghat Mani Iyer came along with the Mridangam. At the sight of the PMI 's Mridangam, there was thunderous applause, even before PMI arrived. That was the reverence those artists commanded and they truly deserved that.

When asked about the Bharathiar songs he has tuned, he mentioned that his first EP record released in 1970 was Kaakkai chirakinile which still remains as a craze among music lovers. He sang that song fully and then sang Thedi unnai charanadainthen in Sindubhairavi and also in a folk mettu which he composed for some special occasion which was absolute mind blogging. Regarding bhajans he sang Tum bin more in Jog as well as in Pilu. Simply amazing renditions of the full song. Is it not a full cutcheri?

A delightful program.
TNS was at his best! His shruti held out all along!
More such programs by Mano will encourage FM-lovers to take an active interest in CM and develop appreciation....

Adding to CRama ,the recording of song was also done with Shri TNS singing as well as playing veenA at the same time

ManO could have been bit more inquisitive , still the show was quite good .

Thanks to Rasikas.org, a Kannadiga who normally doesn't watch Jaya TV, I got a chance to enjoy the video on YouTube.
I was impressed with Mano.. He showed true deference. When TNS talked of Ilayaraja, he showed the same deference. When musical sensibilities evolve through life's journey guided by the unseen power, we become mellow and respectful to all existence. TNS is so articulate, and makes his point so succinctly. The best piece was the Kaanada duet between Padmini and Sivaji. What music! Glory to all such masters!

Wonderful show and interview. I really enjoyed how non-contrived the interaction was.
On googling Mano, I discovered that he studied with Nedunuri Krishnamurthy in Vijayawada for four years. Does anyone know more about this relationship? I am now intrigued by Mano's life and history as well.

I think it is wonderful of Sri Nedunuri to have taken on a student with different religious beliefs (a la Chembai).

And the man of the show, Sri TNS was excellent. I think he gave an great interview! The man lives and breathes music.

Balu mama, I was quite surprised to hear this as well. But a number of sources on the internet report this.
I am inferrring that Mano trained with Nedunuri-garu in the late 70s/early 80s when he was still in Vijayawada, well before he was noticed by MSV and subsequently Illayaraja.

Nice link on ManO, it just brings a trace of memory from my school days .
SPB and yesudas were always having the lions share of songs when illayaraja was the composer . There was a tiff between spb and illayaraja for few years during that time spb did not sing for illayaraja's music. I remember there was a manirathnam movie in telugu titled Geethanjali(starring nagarjun) where SPB sang all the songs . When that film was dubbed in thamizh as idhayathai tirudAthE the tiff happened and manO got SPB's songs .

Then for few years manO continued then SPB again started singing with illayaraja. I recollect the quality of spb rendering in geethanjali was far better than mano's rendering in thamizh(you may have heard the song O pApA lAli kanmani lAli).

But definitely mano was a good singer a kind of (spb + malaysia vasudevan)/2

Anyone has any pointers to recordings where mano has sung carnatic music??

Thanks for the youtube uploads. It was brilliant.

TNS's natural briga laden voice even today is unparalleled. We have grown up litening to him in awe. Unconsciously our hearts swell when we see and listen to him. Let the god of music, heal the slight strain in his voice that he carries in recent times and grant him back to us in pristine glory.
