Grand Vocal Concert by

All are Welcome.

Young Sri.Abhishek Raghuram today occupies a place among the leading carnatic vocalists. He is a child prodigy who showed signs of genius right from a very early age. Being the grandson of mridangam legend, Sri Palghat Raghu and a disciple of Vidwan Sri.P.S.Narayanaswamy, Abhishek has shaped up into a well formed musician both by nature and nurture. Participating and winning awards has become a habit to him right from the age of 7. He has been presenting concerts from age 9. Performing widely in India and foreign countries, his concerts are loved by the amateur rasika and the connoisseur of carnatic music alike.

His awards include:
• Best Spirit of Youth concert from Music Academy in 1997.
• Most Inspiring Youth Artist from The Music Academy in 1999
• Yuva Kala Bharathi from Bharat Kalachar in 2002
• Asthana Vidwan title from the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam in 2006
• Yagnaraman Youth Excellence Award by KGS, Chennai in 2009
• Shanmukha Sangeetha Shironmani Award - Mumbai in 2009
• Senior Outstanding Vocalist - The Music Academy, Madras during the December Season 2010-11

Looking forward to this concert. The hall (Heritage Academy) may be a little too small for someone of Abhishek's caliber and the crowd puller he tends to be. I better get there early to get seats.

1. Varnam - Nera Nammiti - Kaanada - RSI
2. Tulasi Dalamulache - MayamalavaGowla - T (S)
3. Evarani - Devaamruthavarshini - T
4. Korina Varamu - Ramapria - PS (RNS)
5. Brovavamma Bangaru - Neelambari - SS
6. Sarasa Saama Daana - Kapi Narayani - T
7. Kari Kalabha Mukham - Saaveri - MD (RS)
8. Thani
9. (?) Basavanna
10. Sarvam Brahmamayam - Ahir Bhairavi (?) - SB
11. Adideva Paramathma - Sindhu Bhairavi - TA
12. Mangalam

Good concert by Abhishek. I have to sit outside as the hall was full by the time I reached.
There was only one neraval, which was disappointing.
His neraval and swaras in Ramapriya were very good.
Saaveri alapana was excellent as he built up leisurely and finished up with nice swarms.

I cannot hear one side of the mridangam, throughout the concert, as there was only one speaker.
Morsing was audible.

I am quite sure the varnam was in Kaanada (Neranammithi) and not Saveri, as the previous post suggests.

I must be wrong in the varnam id.
I reached when he was finishing up the varnam and trying to find my place.
I heard sarasuda, and mistaken it for the saaveri varnam

I was at this concert. This was a better concert than the one he sang a few months back. The mridangist was not Arjun Kumar (UKS's student); dunno the name; rhythmic syllables and even the sound reminded very much of the great Palghat Raghu. Ramamanohari, Saveri alapanas were ok; but there was a 2 minute arresting alapana of Kapi Narayani - in the trademark GNB style (must admit that I get excited, as a huge GN fan); but krithi rendition was only so so. Karikalabha Mukham (a GN classic) was very nice, was expecting Sree Rajagopla.

Was the mrudangam artist Abhishek's cousin Anand Anantakrishnan? His play is reminiscent of his grandfather, Pallakad Raghu. Like Arjun Kumar, he is a leftie too.

Mrudangist was B C Manjunath, son and desciple of veteran mrudangist B K Chandramouli. Very good percussionist, and quite regular in Bangalore.

Thanks braindrain. I understand that BK Chandramouli is a disciple of Palghat Raghu too!

Another interesting review, especially about the "sounds of music" he had before starting to enjoy the actual concert!
