I have seen this before. May be there is a thread on this already. But it is quite entertaining to watch it again. A classical dancer shows up in the background for the last few seconds ;) When there are quite a few english words in the sahitya, they chose MD style madyamakala passages, without karvai prayogas. Quite clever. I usually find it odd and jarring when English words are stretched on vowels when sung to ragas. Here there are no such issues!

kssr, the singing style and accompaniments are Carnatic but we can still call it Hindustani since the music and the problems they talk about are (pan) Indian ;)

Yes, a good production with a fine reduction in the tone of complaints--actually, very good singing and emoting in an artistic presentation!

We old-timers remember and have written about such a sweet complaints number, composed in two lovely songs by Kothamangalam Subbu for Vasan's film Miss Malini in the late forties. A grand rAga mAlikai about the comforts of modern life glorified by the city woman (Pushpavalli). The village damsel (Sundari Bai) is awed by it all in at first, and then when the power goes (not much has changed, has it?!), the telephone is dead, she sings her own song about the woes of city living. balE jOr balE jOr paTTaNa vAsam (this grand city living!) parodied by her with the same line but continuing with--nAn pAthuppuTTEn pAthuppuTTEn paNathukku nASam!

I hope PB will work his magic and come up with a link for this song as well, like he did for the other songs from Miss Malini!

Surprisingly I never for a moment thought it was CM and all the while as HM!! Hindi sahitya and perfect sruti may be the reasons. Never heard of the main singer Anusuya in CM circles. Must be a very good performer. Any info?
