Re: Sandeep Narayan at Toronto, April 14th
Thank you L-ji.
The pallavi was actually in Chatusra triputa 4 kalai (essentially Adi) and then sped up to two-kalai when he did the trikalam and one kalai for the final swarams and the tani.
Also, I thought the pallavi line was " kANa ezhundODi vArIr.." -- at least that is the way it sounded to me.
It was an excellent concert by Sandeep. The accompanists were extraordinary and playing in good company brought out the best in Sandeep. He has improved both in substance and style considerably since the last time I heard him about 3-4 years ago. One can distinctly see touches of Sanjay Subrahmanyan in just about everything he does musically. Even his hand gestures and the way he compliments his fellow musicians is very Sanjay-esque. He far exceeded my expectations!
Mysore Srikant's alapanais and returns were uniformly superb. I loved the MSG style fingering, evident in the tAnam. Neyveli Venkatesh played with great anticipation, and his familiarity with Sanjay's music was apparent.
The symmetrically structured chandrajyoti tillana was new to me. Lji, I assume KS Raghunathan is a contemporary composer?

Yes he is. He worked in HMV(He is also called HMV Raghunathan). He was also known as a very good sound engineer apart from him being a vaggeyakkara. IIRC,Few numbers of his are sung by Sudha and Nithyashree.mahavishnu wrote:Lji, I assume KS Raghunathan is a contemporary composer?

mahavishnu: Thanks for the corrections. vArIr makes more sense. I have amended my post.
K.S.Raghunathan has also composed a tillAnA in karNaranjani. Sudha Raghunathan has rendered it.

Ah, I see. I had not realized that HMV Raghu was the same person as Sri KS Raghunathan. Thanks for the info, Rajesh and Lji.
Here is a nice video of him discussing his long association of recording Smt MSS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNdkqyJRnNE
