What melodic instrument is the most expensive?

I have some idea about prices of venu, violin and (saraswati) veena, and of them, veena is costliest (quantitatively). I don't know how strings and other maintenance requirements of veena compare with the violin (imported strings are very tempting with the violin, despite their exorbitant prices), but flutes are practically zero-maintenance. ;) I do envy the lower costs and sheer convenience students of flute enjoy. :D That it's small and weightless adds considerably to the flute's advantage.

I misunderstood the question to be 'what is the cheapest' and voted for Venu. I can not change my vote so we will have to adjust it in the final tally. ;)

In 1980 I bought a flute for Rs. 15.00. I still have it and it is my favorite one too.

This usage, 'least cheap' is weird. Since 'cheap' has other meanings, people often replace it with "inexpensive" or "reasonable/reasonably-priced" ...

duff, duh.. Yes, you are right. I changed my vote now. I do not really know the answer for what is the most expensive, since you have the 'other' option. I changed my vote to violin just to move it off of 'Venu'.

Can you change the poll title to some thing other than 'least cheap'.. say, 'most expensive' which is what you use in your first post?

This is an odd question indeed ! The price depends upon the quality of the instrument as well as where it is purchased. The price of a good veeNa, for example may be Rs 10,000 in India and the same or similar one may cost ten times that here in the U.S ! One may be able to get a "cheap" veeNa for much less.

Is voting going to change the price?

Famous quote about voting re governments, I don't remember who said it:-

If voting changed anything they would ban it!
