TNS

Post by rajeshv109 »

I really like his music and was disappointed to read this

http://chennaionline.com/specials/Music ... -Sabha.col

Has the great TNS's prowess declined to the extent outlined in this critique?

Woah, very strongly worded review. But I must agree that TNS sir has his ups and downs now. The voice just doesn't cooperate any more. I've heard that even now he sings an occasional concert in all the splendour of the TNS of yesteryear. I've personally not been fortunate enough to hear one in the recent past.

A harsh review indeed. One of his off days, I guess.
Zakir for sure would have heard of TNS's might in all these years. I don't think we need to worry about that!

Srinivas is known for his deference and good manners and yes, some established vidvAns and vidUshis can take lessons from some youngsters in the business.

This critic would be happy to know that TNS gave a super performance at Cleveland, with barely any vocal support from his son. Sruti lapses? I hardly paid any attention to them in that classy performance of his. No, I'm not a die-hard fan of TNS, and like squims and this critic, have been disappointed by some of TNS's performances. When it's a good day for him, all his assets (they are far too many) seem to shine.

As for Dorai, he too did so well in Cleveland playing for several concerts. He also accompanied TNS there, and the duet (duel) performance of Dorai and Mannargudi Easwaran was memorable.
Do we rasikAs expect too much from the artistes? Are we particular that they should give a perfect performance every time? I don't know ;)

I have always enjoyed Sri Guruvayur Dorai's playing immensely, and my state of mind changed completely upon coming to the sentence mentioning him. Maybe the writer has something against older musicians in general?

I don't think he's anti-geriatric set (hope not!). My guess is--he's not into listening to veterans, as some of you are.

I discounted the entire review after the line about Guruvayur Dorai. This was just a hatchet job, tons and tons of personal vitriol. Before i chanced upon the Rasikas forum, i was so frustrated with online reviews like this. The alternative was the hindu reviews (many were just exercises in stringing random adjectives together). Long live the earnest reviewers on this forum!

Harsh review, indeed. Maybe time to look at the reviewer's credibility. -->

This is not a review. Just an abusive rant.

The review is very honest as far as I know.Only thing is this is dated 2010 and TNS has deteriorated further. Not to blame only TNS , still KamalhAsan & Rajnikanth who look like perippA to the heroines still act. Many of our power hungry politicians have not retired despite moving in wheel chairs.Asai yAra viitudhu ?

His remarks on GD is also quite true IMHO.

i completely agree with the review.tns is emperor without clothes.but nobody wants to accept the truth. he hasbeen demoted to morning slot in music academy.he was not given a slot in naradhaghana sabha.in the coming year more sabhas are going to show him the door.regarding durai the less said the better.his sound is like abullock cart ride in a village road.

What was the need for discussing on a review of a concert held in 2010? The intentions of the reviewer is clear from the language he has used. Let us not waste our time and energy to respond to such abusive rants. Let us discuss new concerts of TNS. Mods. Pl close this thread.

Late to the party, as I often am ... a new "convert" to TNS!

I never enjoyed his vocal music, heard only on CDs, and didn't really enjoy when I came to see his performance live, either. However, I attended his veena concert recently and thought it was magnificent.

For some reason I can't load the review page linked above, but from the first few lines, I can see that this was a "jugalbandi" of sorts. I suggest to the moderators that "jugalbandi" be added to the site list of "censored words" ]:) :geek:

I would request the Admin to remove this thread altogether. It does not serve any purpose.

I am usually very reluctant to remove or close any thread. But devan's unnecessarily provocative and unsavory post pushed us to take this action. Thread closed.
