I request you to please check once again the lyrics. Some places in AP, C1, C2 are defective. For ex.:-

AP : dayite vaahini pathikanyaa is not clear.
C1 : (A) nara vahana means (hu)man vehicle ? It must be naagaabharaNa since it matches with the next words saha bhaamini which means consort. (B) sukha mukha is not sensible (C) sukha phalade --> shubha phalade (D) iha bhantasara is not clear
C2 : (i) samudaya --> samudaaya (ii)mukhajita is out of place (iii) Ana jitAdriradE is not clear (iv) kamalavANi must be kamalaasani (v) prthushONi is not clear

All feminine nouns & adjectives ending in 'i' like gauri, veNi, etc should be in long vowel endings like gaurii, veNii, kaumaarii, etc.

While this song is attributed to Swati tirunal, it is most definitely not by him. It refers to another ruler - toNDaiman vijaya-raghunAtha of pudukOTTAi; and the travancore king is not likely to have done that.

This song may have been one of the Tanjore quartette facsimiles for the famous huseni varna/swarajati that already had multiple sets of telugu and tamizh lyrics, along with a few variants of the dhAtu as well.This piece used to be a regular in the repertoire of many traditional musicians-dancers from pudukOTTai. There are three allusions that fix this one as a pudukOTTai song - the references to bRhannAyaki, gOkaRNEswara and vakula-vana.

0.5. vAhinI-pati is the lord of rivers - the ocean; vAhinIpati-kanyA is lakshmi,
vAhini-pathi-kanyA+vANi-vandita is one who is worshipped by lakshmi and sarasvati.

1. naravAhana is a name for kubEra [as a google search will reveal]. naravAhana-sakha is shiva, the friend of kubEra. Shiva's bhAmini is bRhannAyika of pudukOTTai, the deity sung in this song.

2. nArada-tumbura-shuka-mukha translates to nArada, tumbura, shuka etc.

3. nigamAntasArE must be clearer.

4. samudaya is correct. mukha-jita-himakarE is onee whose face wins over the moon in splendour. yAna-jita-dviradE must be clear, following the same motif. pRthu-shrONi = wide hipped one.

5. As this song is in the sambOdhana [Vocative case] all ikArAnta words of the female gender must definitely be with a short i [janani, bhuvanEshwari, kaumAri] and all AkArAnta words must end with an E [nAyikE sadanE].

I suggest that we should all exercise a bit more caution, before setting 'right' the lyrics of the vAggEyakAra-s with the products of our imagination.

Link in Post 4 and Post 8 give the TALam for this song as Chapu ie, = Mshra Chapu ??

However, http://me-and-music.blogspot.in/2009_04_01_archive.html lists this song as sung in Roopakam TALam ??.

Is this song commonly / popularly sung in either TALam ?

Pl clarify.

This song is sung ideally in Khanda Chapu for getting the right mood. Some have sung in Mishra Chapu in vilamba kaala.

Kh.Ch. 5x7 = M.Ch. 7x5 = 35.

I have not heard this sung in ruupaka taala which would require 36 beats total.
