The site in this link calls it bhargavi and even gives a raga aro-avaro... I just wanted to confirm if this is indeed the case... Plus, I googled bhargavi raga and came up with nothing. So I checked out the janya list at karnatik.com and found a corresponding raga named... Wait for it... kudiraiyALi
What's the "raga" of this song?

Sorry, couldn't listen to the clip for more than 5 seconds...so no idea what raga it is, if any raga at all.
Now, let me listen to some soulful MDR to remove the after-effects of this 'song'.

It is a purely intellectual pursuit. I wasn't listening to the lyrics and couldn't care lesser for them. If you're not capable of identifying the raga or are too stuck up to look beyond the fact that it's a film song, it is probably best you not reply at all. And FYI, the song doesn't even start properly within the first 5 seconds.

Thank you Jigyaasa for the link. Useful to revisit some songs from college days. The song you mentioned was fairly popular during '80s; and it is not bad at all. No idea about ragam.

I am afraid if learned rasikas are not able to identify the raga, the I dare not attempt-
I would then be exposing my ignorance about TWO Ragas!!!
By the way,Jigvaasa,WHY get worked up over a "tongue-in-the-cheek" remark by Ragam Talam.?
Easy Rasika Comrade!!!

@chalanata, I can't detect the rishabham... That's why it seems like it is sgmpdns - sndpmgs from kIravANi
@arasi, it appears that the dhaivatam is definitely NOT the same as kdvg...
@RamaMK, I was asking a "clean" question which ragam-talam tried to vilify without any substance. I was only defending my stance. I wasn't really "worked up"

Re: What's the "raga" of this song?
I agree with this diagnosis. And I also agree that ragam-talam, given the name, should be more patient with ragam questions! This is a very straight song, based on an identifiable set of notes and phrases and the ragam deserves a name. Kudiraiyali is fine, if that is what it is.Jigyaasa wrote:@chalanata, I can't detect the rishabham... That's why it seems like it is sgmpdns - sndpmgs from kIravANi

Jigyaasa,
You are right; rishabham is missing. It is SAgamapadanisa; sanidhapamagasa only. thanks for correcting me.

You're welcome chalanta! It's my pleasure to note that we've arrived at an agreement on the grammar of the structure although maybe a nicer name is in order
I personally think it sounds very nice and would love to hear a kriti in it if anyone composes one!

Re: What's the "raga" of this song?
jigyaasa,
Nice name!
As is, I still have to get to know many rAgams which already exist within the CM frame!
Except for some very old film songs, aren't even the very CM sounding songs mishr something? That's fine because they are pleasing to listen to and I'm always happy to detect shades of classic rAgams in film songs in all languages.

This song seems to adhere to the grammar quite faithfully except a few minor digressions... In fact, that's also what I wanted to confirm with others.arasi wrote:Except for some very old film songs, aren't even the very CM sounding songs mishr something?

Somewhat related to this topic of identifyiing the Ragam, is also my Posts 20 and 21 in :
http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5925 - dt 19th and 20th Apr, 2012.
Since I haven't received any response in that Thread for quite some time, I searched through rasikas website for a similar topic, and found 2 Threads - one of them is this thread.
I would request members to pl have a look into those songs - I have provided Youtube links for all the songs (mostly Malayalam Songs, sung by Yesudas).
Would it have been better had I posted the above 2 Msgs in "Sahitya & identification requests" Subtitle, {or, a new Topic in "Light Classical" - I doubt this alternative though} ?
In fact, I have an updated list with some more of such Film songs, for which I would like to have the Ragam(s) identified.
Thanks in Advance (TIA).
