It is the IPL season and yes, vacation time as well. This, however, did not deter a reasonably good turnout on May 12th at Pattabhirama Pandit's vibrant concert @ Ranjani Fine Arts.
The concert started with a happy Sri raga varnam followed by AbhimAna in Begada which was rounded up with brisk swaras and bringing out the raga essence with nice patterns. A melodiously and leisurely rendered Sri Parvati in Bowli was followed by a nice alApana of Natakapriya that wonderfully captured the nuances of the rarely heard rAga in concert circuits. MAra Jananim AshrayE, a krithi of N C Krishnamacharyalu was rendered along with intricate swara patterns with aplomb.
Three krithis followed in quick succession : Anupama Gunambudhi in Athana, Chintamani's Devi Brova ( a trademark KVN parampara song )and Brova Bharama in BahudAri. Nice bite sized swara prastara for Athana and BahudAri songs. Anupallavi of Devi Brova ( LOka Janani ) was sung in the tAra sthayi too, maybe to uphold the tradition

RTP in todi was the surprise package. The first artiste to sing an RTP @ Ranjani Fine Arts. Well paced and balanced RTP with pallavi in two speed Adi "Ninne Neranamminanura Rama Ramayya Raghuvara". This was followed by a well orchestrated tani by Sudhindra on mridangam and his disciple Phaneendra on the Ghatam. Lovely intricate patterns in melodious rhythm. Was expecting rAgamAlika swaras, was not to be

What followed were Svarna Venkatesha Deekshitar's Om Namah Shivaya in hindolam, Kandu DhanyanAdE in behag, Yadava Ne Ba and MDR's Bhageshri composition SAgara Shayana Vibho. Conclusion with Dhanashri tillana and mangalam.
Overall, an excellent performance by Pattabhirama Pandit
