Any info or thoughts on this mysterious raga called Manjari? Patti viduvaradu sung rapidex by Semmangudi and more slowly by Voleti (available somewhere on Youtube) seem to be the song versions of the earlier generation floating around. G.Ravikiran, Ranjani Gayatri and others do render it, so the song and therefore the raga seems alive and kicking. But what is it? Any opinions, grammar, reminiscences?
Manjari as a name seems quite popular, one way or another, but as a raga name it is overshadowed by Phalamanjari (Sanatana is there, and the Patnam song and Sri Narasimha, thereby giving it a huge lead over Manjari) is certainly more popular. Somewhat like Bangala, which is just a curiosity, whereas Suddhabangala is a solid raga (three extant Tyagaraja songs, at least).

Gandhara & Nishada appears to be Jeeva & Nyasa Swaras. The raga produces dIna rasa. Must have been popularised by Thyagaraja.

Re: Manjari
Dear brother-member, vs_manjunath, Both Amsha-svara and Jeeva-svara are same which must be sung without any kind of shake or oscillation mingling with the Adhara-shruti predominantly. Ragacchaya-svara is different which could also be shaken or oscillated. In Manjari as both the Sadharana-gandhara and Kashiki-nishada must be oscillated they can never become Jeeva-svaras. amsharma
