It was wonderful to read the reviews of Sriram Gangadharan in the latest Ananda Vikatan and the Hindu Friday review page. It is heartening that this versatile and great artist is soaring in the field. I was fortunate to listen to his rendering of "Kamalamba" - Thodi at Brahma Gana Sabha where he took his audience to another realm altogether. His Music Academy concert was sublime. It is rare for an artist in this generation to adhere to such musical values and shun publicity. I am sure that very soon his music and beliefs will rule the hearts of every lover of Carnatic music.

Few months before in a concert of suryaprakAsh on gnb day, I did see Sriram gangAdhAran in a very different dress and style . Now I understand the gym and metallica connection.
A very nice interview , a very capable musician, though heard him only once in a live concert (he sang a shruthiranjani that day...). Also never knew he learnt flute.

http://www.thehindu.com/arts/music/article3554781.ece review of concert at trichur. I have never heard this pantuvarali of NT that is mentioned. He has learnt directly from Vidwan S kalyanaraman, I wish that detail is also mentioned.

Re: Sriram Gangadharan
Rajesh, thanks for posting this.
Sriram and I were contemporaries in our high school days and he was much better known as a flautist than a vocalist back then. Sriram is an extremely talented musician, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the music of the great masters. It was Smt Rukmini Rajagopalan (Sanjay's grand-aunt) who channeled Sriram's energies into vocal music. I remember interschool events when both Sanjay and Sriram represented Vidya Mandir. They pretty much won all the major events across town; a few amateurs from my school (PSBB) lost out to them each time!
I think this association with Sanjay carried all through their time at Vivekananda college. I left Chennai shortly after that, so I did not have the opportunity to personally keep up with his progress...I think he learned from TSK after this, but it could not have been for very long since TSK passed away a few short years after that. But Sriram managed to create a GNB-inspired identity for himself, a label that he perhaps carried farther than he need have.
My guess is that Uday and SriramG probably overlapped in their training with the flute maestro Sri TS Sankaran.
In a time when most of today's established vocalists (Vijay Siva, Sanjay, Unni, Sowmya, Nityasree, Shashikiran, SP Ramh) were first trying to make their mark, Sriram was a pathbreaker and visionary of sorts. He won every major competition, attracted the largest crowds and was possibly the most creative of them all.
I am very happy to see Sriram's recent performance get good reviews. My best wishes to this superb artiste and performer. I hope he will find the right balance in harnessing his endless supply of manodharma.

Dear Mahavishnu sir ,
Nice to know that you are an alumni of PSBB School like me. I had attended Sriram Gangadar's great concerts, he is much innovative like his Guru Sri Tanjore S Kalyanaraman.
