Not a drop-in replacement because I am unable to copy events from my calendar to the kucheri-calendar from inside gmail with a single click. Can this be done?

I don't think so but you can do the reverse. http://www.kutchericalendar.com/calendar/subscribe.php

No, the kutcheri calendar is not Google Calendar based, so this is not possible as it currently stands. The old calendar was essentially a Google Calendar that was being displayed on the site. However, the down side to using Google Calendar is that one cannot write to any Google Calendar without being given explicit "edit" permissions. If you recall, in the old calendar, people had to explicitly get authorized to add events.

If you visit http://www.kutchericalendar.com/calendar/gcal.php you can, in a single click, copy events from the kutcheri calendar to your Google calendar. However, as mohan correctly points out, going from your calendar to the kutcheri calendar is not currently possible. I'll try to think of some workarounds...

It would have been nice to keep the old rasikas calendar around for just this one piece of functionality until the kucheri calendar implemented it. Was there a pressing need to shut it down?

Suresh, the only way this can work using Google Calendars is through event invites. As you create events in your Google Calendar (or even for existing ones), just add the following email address as an attendee.

[email protected]

Please note that if you store the above email in your Google contacts under the name, say "Add Kutcheri", you can just invite this contact and not type out the email address every time. This workaround involves just one click and typing a few letters. Hopefully, that meets your needs.

The main problem with this workaround (as opposed to requiring the entry of events on the web form) is that the requirement of having certain fields is not enforced. Therefore, if you do this, please use the following format for events:

******************************
Program type: Carnatic Concert
Sabha: Naada Inbam
City: Chennai
******************************
Concert on the occasion of Nick H's 60th Birthday

R. Vedavalli (Vocal)
R. K. Shriram Kumar (Violin)
K. Arun Prakash (Mridangam)
N. Guruprasad (Ghatam)

Thanks for your help in making this easy.

Where is this format supposed to be used? Is this the description field? What about the title field?

Suresh: Yes, I meant this format for the description field. For the title, please use the name of the main artist. For example, for the same kutcheri listed above, the title field would be:

R. Vedavalli (Vocal)

and the "Where" field would be:

Ragasudha Hall

I hope this works perfectly right away, but advance apologies if it doesn't (might require some iteration to fix). The basic idea here is that I intend to have some scripts periodically check for new event invitations, extract the information from the entry, and then insert it into the Kutcheri Calendar after formatting, etc., so that the event gets displayed on the website.

Will be more than happy if title, location and duration show up. Let me try one.

Sureshvv, it was not known at the time of closing the old google calendar that kutchericalendar.com (which has replaced it) had certain shortcomings. In any case it would defeat the purpose to maintain two different calendars as people would not know where to add or look for events as the event databases would not be in sync.
