Mr.R.Krishnamurthy was an avid collector of music like Mr.C.Narayanan. He was an Income Tax Consultant by profession and had offices in Bangalore and Chennai which he managed simultaneously. He must have been about 75 years when he passed away. He had huge collections over last 40 years. He was earlier living in Bangalore and he had contacts with all sabhas in Bangalore and Chennai. He was regularly recording concerts in Ram Seva Mandali, Bangalore carrying his own deck and sitting with it througout the concert and recording immaculately. He will not entrust to any body else. He will settle only for very good recordings. His collections started from reel tapes to the present day mp3. He used to possess very expensive gadgets.
He was known to be a very tough man- not very generous in sharing his collections. But he was very generous to me. He had a special liking for me. In the year 1989 I got introduced to him through Mr.Thyagarajan, a CA settled in Bangalore. I was in Bangalore at that time, and my wife's place being Chennai, that too Mahalingapuram, very near Mr RK's house, I used to visit often. I was one among the very few who had access to his index and his entire musical treasure. I will select some concerts and hand over 10-20 tapes to him. He will record the concerts and bring them to Bangalore within a week where I will go to his office in SJP Road and collect them. I did not give any money for his recordings. I had taken quite a lot of MSS, Santhanam, MMI, RJ,MLV etc from him. His recordings were of very good quality. And he did not expect anything in return. That was his generosity. Many times, I had gone to his house and spent hours hearing old concerts and discussing about music.
He was a great friend of Dr.S.Ramanathan and his disciples- Sowmya, Unnikrishnan etc and he only first introduced me to the music of Sowmya and UK in the eightees. He sponsored many concerts of them.
Gardening was his another passion and he had a wonderful terrace garden in his house where he grew many varieties of vegetables and fruits.
After my coming to Chennai in 2009, I met him in MUDHRA music festival where he also used to come regularly and I got many concerts of Dr.SR, Thiruvarur Namasivayam, VVSadgopan (78 rpm Records),. Lastly after last year's VVS concert, I requested for VVS concerts and within a couple of days, he gave me a CD containing 3 concerts of VVS. I will remain eternally grateful to him for his magnanimity.
I am staying very close to his house. But I did not see the newspaper obituary column and was not aware about his death. His soul has joined with the souls of all masters of music whom he adored.

Sir, He was from the Income tax dept and belonged to the Indian Revenue Service. My father was his colleague, while serving at Bangalore in the late sixties. My father and he planned to do law and start practice, but he did so and my father continued to serve the department. He was his senior and probably at his behest did take up practice. He had a very great regard for my father and gave a lot of recordings, which is a part of my collection. He was also very kind to me and did share a lot of recordings .I had been to his house, and enjoyed his hospitality and saw his wonderful collection at his house and spent many hours listening to a lot of rare recordings and discussed a lot about music. May his soul rest in peace. Both my father and he shared a common interest for cricket and often played together . Ragjay
