My guru Brindamma's DVD release

Post by chitravina ravikiran »

It was a classy event initiated by Shri R K Ramanathan (son of Shri Ramnad Krishnan), along with Shri Kanthan, the Director of this DVD as well as several others brought out by Mr Sudhakar & team at Swathi soft.

The address by Shri Gopalakrishna Gandhi was touching even as it was thought-provoking. Shri R Venugopal is almost un-matchable when it comes to putting elusive but deep concepts across about Brindamma's music in a most succinct fashion. Shri V V Sundaram was candid in admitting to his limited interaction with Brindamma herself but shared instances of his times with Muktamma.

The entire DVD was screened to the house full audience (at Sivagami Pettachi Auditorium, Chennai) that included a few all-time-great legends as well as many established musicians and dancers of several generations. The DVD itself is a must-own for any music lover, student or musician and as Mr Venugopal observed, "the music world owes a big thank you to Shri Ramanathan for his unstinting efforts to bring it out".

Some of Brindamma's vintage music clips in that DVD dwarfed all that can ever be said or written about her...

This DVD seems to be an act of worship by all the greats mentioned here and on You Tube to Brindamma.
Blessed indeed.

Would someone kindly let us know how much of this DVD is actual Brindamma's music, and how much is the various tributes?

From what we so far see, seems like a fitting tribute for a classy lady. Such pleaure to hear her too. Look forward to listening to th CD.

A pleasure listening to Gopalkrishna Gandhi speak again (after Radha Viswanathan's 77th birthday event with the concert she gave with Aishwarya).
Considering all the ramblings one hears in speech-laden events, his address was sensible and sensitive. He drew a picture of a top class artiste who lived her music without compromising not one iota--a true Dhanamma tradition there, not only in music but in life. Her sense of humor was also brought out by him, hinting at the subtle sense of sarcasm in it. His bilingual speech is charming to listen to-unlike the popular mode where we hear thamizh and english being mixed indiscriminately, making not much sense at all!
