I think double mridangam is patronised frequently to cover all artists, as the programmes are organised by Percussive Art centre- V.Krishna s/o Late Bangalore K Venkatram. Today Srimushnam and Sudhindra are playing for TVS.
A friend who attended the RKS concert, felt TKM found it difficult to cope.

A friend who attended the RKS concert, felt TKM found it difficult to cope.
Firstly to have some one like TKM is not for performing but as a respect to the Thanjavur school.
TKM is about 88. Mridhangam is no easy feat. It was aptly described by the organiser to describe the school style using the
popular tamil phrase "poondu vilayadaradhu", -squeezing and fitting a sollukattu , to the composition is the thing.
A few instances when it was displayed was enough. He has never been known to play a drumming effect and probably this
does not fit to the Musriri bhani ,( bhava and sangathi bhani) of RKS. Yes, when RKS's son presented swara patterns , TKM was a little behind to support. Probably the age. It however did not matter.
In the thani avarthanam the fractional counting (to fit the sama) was awesome for the age.
RKS was no less outstanding. The ripe fruit is the music. The bilahari alapana was enough yet reaching details. I liked the rasaali composition(BMK made it known to the world as a vocalist, it was played usually on the flute)

I think rather than covering artists - I interpreted it that the guru-shishya duo were playing. I believe Vid. BCM is learning from TKM sir. Similarly Vid. Sudhindra is a disciple of Vid. Raja Rao.
I for one enjoyed the concert very much - Most of the songs pre-tani were new to me. Vid. RKS plans each of his concerts so well - and I for one consider myself lucky to have attended it and hear the not-so-often sung songs from the maestro. As I said in another thread - there were 3 top concerts to choose from on that day - concerts along with rain were pouring in bangalore
