8. Karmabandhana chedana - Hindolam - Adi

followed by Mangalam Kosalendraya - Madhyamavathi

Brilliant concert. Loved every minute of it. Very nice raaga aalaapanais and the swara prasthaarams were very tastefully done.
What I would really remember from this concert would be the amazing pallavi. Lot of laya complications. Trikaalam was done as usual, but also, she changed the taalam itself, doing a tishram (and trikaalam in that), and then putting the taala as 1 kalai and singing for that as well. My mind did not comprehend some of the super fine details, but it was great to listen to. Truly showed the artiste's vidwat. Beautifully done.

About the accompanists:
Nalina Mohan accompanied very well. Her raaga aalaapanais and swara prasthaarams were brief yet effective. She complemented Sathyavathi ma'am very well.

The percussion artistes were both top notch. Excellent accompaniment for the kritis and also the pallavi. The thani was extremely enjoyable. Some really nice kanakku. Loved the concept of starting with the samam, playing the mohra and muktaayas for 21 aksharams (for the 20 akshara avarthana of the taala) and hence arriving at the 6 akshara eduppu of the pallavi at the end of the thani. It was a nice touch.

Must mention Smt. Lavanya who did the vocal support. She sang a bit of the Kaamavardhini aalaapanai in the higher octave and handled it very well. Hoping she shines in the future.

Squims,
Satyavathi's concerts, even to those of us who do not know the scholarly aspects of music, can be appealing. She sings spiritedly and with assurance. She explains with clarity the intricacies of her presentation here and there.

Whose composition is # 8, I wonder. There is a CD of hers of Dr. Srikaanth's compositions. Hope she sings a few of them in her concerts.

May I roughly translate- " Forgetting Haridasar is like our forgetting our own self. I will conclude with a Haridasar song"

She announced most of the pieces. And I'm pretty sure she said Mysore Kuppayya, unless my ears deceived me, which is quite possible with Gayana Samaj's sound system. :P

Yesterday i watched her Pranavakaram rendition in Youtube and was enthralled completely. Her knowledge and command and deep internalisation of carnatic music came out so vividly.
Am not sure whether she has ever been invited to Chennai? Highly recommended

Her diction in addition is superb especially in Sanskrit - she is a scholar. If I remember right, she was featured in the morning slot at last years MA music season. Her LecDems were highly acclaimed in the US last year on this forum. I wish she has more of these in Bangalore.

I must have misheard the name since no one seems to know of the existence of such a composer. But why am I not being allowed to edit my own original post? It isn't giving me the option.

Just wanted to remove the name of Mysore Kuppayya since there doesn't seem to be any evidence of a composer of the name.

EDIT: I looked up sound clips on the net now, and it seems like she sang Mahadeva Manohari in Devamanohari by Veenai A Sundaram Iyer. I honestly don't know why I heard Mysore Kuppayyar. They don't even sound similar!
