Songs connected to seasons

Place to go if you want to ask someone identify raga, tala, composer etc or ask for sāhitya (lyrics) or notations or translations.

Songs connected to seasons

Post by Rajani »

I am looking for songs connected to various seasons ( vasanta, varshaa, grishma, shishira, sharad and hemanta) in all Indian languages. Folk songs are welcome too. I will be grateful if you could give me the words, meanings if possible and if a recording is available, it would be wonderful.

Songs about festivals that are season-related would also be welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Administrators :

I feel this query is not relevant to this forum. Isn't it better that this post is placed in General Discussions ?

This seems to be a big question and then asking lyrics and recordings. Break this question in to a very specific small one so you can get answer quickly. Start with Vasanta - devotional, Then vasanta folk, etc etc.

I don't think the thread is unsuitable here. Perhaps more suitable in the General Discussions, yes.
Yet, it's much more suitable than 'lyrics please' requests without the song line! Also, how about the one which has the title Skype Lessons? ;)
I'm sure Rajani doesn't mind if it's moved to General Discussions.
Meanwhile, in the light music kind, the four seasons song from Jhanak jhanak pAyal bhAjE might serve as an opener or concluding piece starting with ruth basant Aye...

Oh, at times, we tend to hesitate when it comes to concerts. Where do they belong? Concert Reviews or Music and Festivals? ;)

Asking for Sahitya with or without a song line should be fine, I have done it myself. Most of the times, with my language-hearing impairedness, I'd rather not type up a botched version of the line!

smala,
Yes, sometimes we can't help it. Still, either the rAgam or composer is mentioned?
Let me rephrase what I said: those who do know the first line of the sAhityam need to mention it in the thread title instead of simply calling it 'Lyrics Please!' ;)

Thanks arasi, will add the song to my list. This is for a school project, so film songs are a no-no. Pity, since they are plenty and some really lovely too.

VKR Sir, your suggestions is good. So may I request people to tell me if they know folk songs about Spring (Vasanta Rtu)

I only know "lalita lavanga lataa" , the 3rd Ashtapadi.

Rajani - I was wondering if anyone has set verses from Rtu samhAra to music...would be very nice to find some from there.
Like Arasi, Lalgudi Sri Jayaraman also has composed a song on vasanta Rtu in vasantA - describing how manmatha comes to the groove where Siva is in deep meditation, and pArvati is serving him - It goes, madanan vandAn, vasantan vandAn...
