Cleveland and compensation
Recently I met a carnatic music afficianado and one of the topics that came up was the compensation for performing artists in Cleveland. I am sure the artists broght from India are covered for all expenses and then some. What about the artists based in NA and especially those who pursue music as or do they profession? Do they get any compensation at all or do they pay from their pocket to get a brief period of exposure? Can some NA artists enlighten?

Why don't you ask the NA artist you promote on this website, namely, Rohan Krishnamurthy?jeevanraju wrote:

Re: Cleveland and compensation
I am an NA artist but not a professional. I have a good job and have performed in Cleveland and received nothing as way of compensation. It doesn't matter to me, but I am concerned about "professional" NA musicians. And hey, don't insinuate me, I have least interest in any one particular artist. I take strong exception to your accusations and I would rather some responsible people discuss this sensitive issue. Not gossip mongers.

Why Indians cannot refrain from other's affairs? For example, Indian working in USA will not ask his co-worker questions regarding his salary, bonus, etc. but in India they will not leave any stone unturned to find out the same and gossip. Is this trait common or found only in select few? Won't they be more productive is they use the time on improving their own skills?
I am reminded of the saying "Wolf shed tears for the goat getting drenched in the rain".

MDRFan....considering that the last posting for this topic was on 26th July, I assumed that it has met its natural death and that is what should happen for a topic as sensitive as this. In my mind this is not a subject for discussion for any of us other than the organisers and the performers. As rasikas our job is to attend the programme and enjoy. If any artist whether based in India or US feels that he/she has not been adequately compensated, he/she should not have participated. If the artist has participated, then one has to assume that he/she has been compensated as per the agreement they might have entered into. We do not have to discuss this.
As for your comments "Why Indians cannot refrain from other's affairs? For example, Indian working in USA will not ask his co-worker questions regarding his salary, bonus, etc. but in India they will not leave any stone unturned to find out the same and gossip"..... whole lot of hog wash!
