PALLAVI PUZZLE
In the past, court musicians used to challenge one another with pallavis that were like riddles. On similar lines, in the Pallavi Darbar festival that is going to be held from 3rd August to 5th August at Mylapore Fine Arts Club, a pallavi puzzle testing the Carnatic IQ of musicians will be conducted. A group of 2-3 members per team is allowed to take part in this contest. There is no entry fee to participate in the contest, registrations for which will be open till 11 AM on the 5th of August. Registrations can also be sent via email to [email protected]. The contest is a measure of one’s ability to decode a pallavi on the spot and answer relevant questions on it. Winners will be awarded cash prizes of Rs.5001 for the first place, Rs.2500 and Rs.1000 for the second and third place respectively. This contest would take place in the august presence of experts, Smt.Suguna Purushothaman and Sri J.Venkatraman.
PALLAVI BANK
This season, a pallavi bank will be launched which will stay as a repository of pallavis. Professional musicians, learners of carnatic music or rasikas can contribute recordings of known and new pallavis with the notations and mail it to [email protected]. The creator of the best new pallavi lines and the contributor of maximum number of pallavis shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs.5000 or 100 USD. Contributors from across the world can send in their entries to [email protected] or [email protected]

Re: Pallavi Puzzle & Pallavi Bank
Wonderful idea. Congratulations!...as long as one doesn't have to solve the puzzle/riddle like Hermione (in the Sorcerer's Stone) or Harry (in the maze)...

Re: Pallavi Puzzle & Pallavi Bank
Need a clarification:
Should recordings of pallavi be submitted or is it acceptable to submit notations of the pallavi alone? Many times the recordings are available online, so is it ok to provide the weblink for the same?

Arunsri, In my opinion , notation of the aas along with details of arudi karvai , eduppu , name of talam, nadai etc is more essential than just the recording. every pallavi can be sung in different talas, by adjusting the karvai etc.

Thanks
What I meant was that only. Pallavis can vary according to the structure, same pallavi in different talams and eduppus etc. So as long as a recording is NOT a must, it is good
