PS - For Carnatic IQ contest, a group of 2-3 members may take part. There is no entry fee to participate in the contest, registrations for which will be open till 11 AM on the 5th of August. Registrations can also be sent via email to carnaticapallavi AT gmail DOT com. The contest is a measure of one’s ability to decode a pallavi on the spot and answer relevant questions on it. Winners will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5001 for the first place, Rs.2500 and Rs.1000 for the second and third places respectively. This contest would take place in the august presence of experts Smt. Suguna Purushothaman and Sri J. Venkatraman.

so - all the pallavis by all the performers are on the spot? would not a rehearsed pallavi actually be better as opposed to on-the-spot ?

Lec Dem by shri JV on 4th Aug at MFA
The lec dem started at 16 15 hrs. The hall was filled with 100 rasikas including students.
Prof TRS and Narasimhan F/o Chitravina were present.
JV was assisted by his disciple Pradeep
The RTP was in the raga Poorna chandrika ?
After the delineation of the raga by Guru and sishya, Pallavi demonstration started.
It was in thisra jathi Jampa thalam in misra nadai
'Adum Koothane adi panindhen' is the Pallavi
The various forms of kalams in madhyamam, vilambam and thuritham and its combinations during ascending and descending in poorvangam and uthirangam were sung and Pradeep did it meticulously.
JV did not touch the topic of Niraval but swaraprastharam and theermanam were demonstrated.
All mathematics only [ kanakku ] He mentioned that it is fortunate PSP and his guru Alathur did not choose academic course lest CM world would have lost such genious .
The whole programme was like a teaching session and students enjoyed it.
A standing ovation was given at the end .
The lec dem closed at 17 15 hrs.
