Indu Sruti Smriti Galasi - it had purandara vitala in the lyrics.
It was definitely not "Idu neeku nyayama"
For me the GOLD standard of Jaganmohini RTP, is DKP version.

Raman - how accessible is this place to metro? Is it walkable (and safe?)

Re: Sanjay - 6-Aug-2012 - Unnati - Bangalore
I wanted to try the metro when its not raining. Yesterday it poured like anything before the concert.
From the metro station, if you walk to the end of the platform towards unnati,
there is a ramp which will lead you to a over bride across the railway track, which leads to the railway parallel road.
Its almost a kilometer when you walk along the road and take a right when the board says sadananda nagar.
I have to try it myself once to see how it is. I am also worried about the safety part.
Its well lighted, and cars will be whizzing past. Right next to the station there is a KSRTC satellite bus stand.
But I have seen very few people walking along the road.

It was an excellent concert from Sanjay! His repertoire is amazing
The list reflects the theme he chose for last year's Jaya TV Maragazhi Mahotsavam program.
He sang lots of Muthiah Bhagavathar's tamil Krithis.
#7 I suppose he didn't sing any Neraval.
#11 He sang a short Virutham (Uppum Karpuravum... in Behag) before singing Adum chidambaramo
#12 Swathi thirunal bhajan I also felt was in charukesi
During Pallav Ragamalika swarasi i thought I heard Darbari kanada also, i might be wrong!
Varadarajan was very good. Percussion department was too loud for my comfort though.
Sunday TNS gave a brilliant concert details are there in braindrain's blog

"He sang a short Virutham (Uppum Karpuravum... in Behag)"
I have heard the virutham a couple of times. It is quite colloquial not so befitting (of course IMHO) a concert. Also, the meaning that Karpooram is more important than salt seems factually incorrect. I would prefer Lord Nataraja to be more of an essential ingredient in life, like salt rather than a higher priced less essential item like K
Impressive selection for RTP. Such a fantastic performer. We wish him continued success.

I actually quite like this viruttam. I find nothing wrong with it being colloquial.
Here is the clip from the concert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ni5Yc6FPV4&feature=plcp
Sanjay's behag just drips with beauty in just these two lines. The allegory is not about the importance of salt or camphor, but about the inherent differences between form and substance.

'inherent differences between form and substance'...
How well-put!
To me too, they are very emotive lines and are fitting words to lead on to ADum chidambaramO?
I think we have discussed the merits of comparing uppu and kaRpUram before, but you say it perfectly. From the list and review, it seems as if it applies to more than just the lyrical aspect of the concert. Content, content, content...
Unnati seems to be another big annual musical happening in the city, adding to Bengaluru's CM offerings.

The actual line in the viruttham is uppum karpooramum onRaippOl irunthAlum oorengum perithAi karpooramthanai solvArE. I am not sure if perithAi can be interpreted to mean important - Then again I am no expert in translations.kssr wrote:"He sang a short Virutham (Uppum Karpuravum... in Behag)"

Enjoyed listening to Sanjay's rendition of the virutham and the song. Thanks to Mahavishnu and the organizers for putting it up on you tube.

Mahavishnu,
Did not see the link this morning. You might have added it later on--or did I miss seeing it?
Yes, thanks to you and to the organizers. A behAg worth listening to more than once. And an impressive set of songs from Sanjay too.
Haven't heard the PD song before. Is it newly tuned in kOsalam?

Arasi, The link was in my original post, I haven't added anything since.
I subscribed to UnnatiNGO's feeds on youtube, initially just for their carnatic uploads such as this one here.
Their video channel also feature things related to their developmental projects for enabling and empowering underprivileged youth. I don't know much more about their work, but on seeing their other videos I realized that they are an amazing service organization. More details here: http://www.unnatiblr.org/
I am not aware of Purandara dasa composing in Kosalam. If so, it must have been recently tuned. Perhaps Keerthi, Lakshman-ji or others might be able to clarify.

Thanks, Mahavishnu!
I did miss the link in the morning then (I was hurrying around)!
Since many of PD's songs are not sung in the original ragAs, and this being a rare rAgam--one getting popular only recently, I didn't think it was PD's original tune.
Keerthi and L are good sources indeed, for almost anything about music. And for that matter, you too!
