mAra vairi (?) - nAsikAbhUShaNi - Adi - T (?) (RS)
tani
Lots of tukkaDas, including tambUri mITi tava, rAdhA samEtA krShNa, a valaji song, sharaNam aiyappa (the madhyamAvati song EsudAs sings), enna tavam ceidana and so on.

It was a very classical concert. Krtis were rendered with discipline and sparseness which was totally endearing, if only there was an unnecessary syllable of lyric demarcated here or one not brought out there.

Sri Krishnamurthy has a wonderful insight to rAgams, and brought out gauLai, varamu and shankarAbharaNam right away. The gauLai he played today was unforgettable, what with duDukugala for the composition! It created an ambience of seriousness and energy.

The Ahirbhairavi (?) composition was rendered with bhAvam, experiencing everything in the music. All gamakams, and the spaces between the notes came out so smoothly and neatly.

The varamu rAgam and krti again brought out the ability of Sri Krishnamurthy to pour emotion into his music, and express himself so well.

The madhyamAvati was absolutely classical. And I mean classical in a way not all 'madhyamAvatis' are.

Even the vAgadIshwari was rendered endearingly.

The shankarAbharaNam AlApanai was too brief, and Sri Krishnamurthy seemed to have run out of energy by then. Unfortunately he didn't share AlApanais with Sri Manikantan, though from the swarams he played, he seemed quite good too -- though he often slipped on shruti, especially in mandrasthAyi ... this was especially noticeable since he sometimes played anupallavis of krtis in the mandrasthAyi.

The shankarAbharaNam and nAsikAbhUShaNi went on OK, if only they seemed a little rushed. The swaram finale for nAsikAbhUShaNi had a portion in trishram.

The tani was long and loud and strange. It even sounded monotonous. It was unbelievable because Sri Govindarajan's accompaniment for all the krtis and the swaram rounds had been so wonderful. Also, Sri Dinesh Kumar, who at times missed the cue when he was to fill in during the krtis, replied very appropriately to Sri Govindarajan's parts.

Then came the long chain of tukkaDas, one after another. It being Independence Day, I would have liked a jayati jayati bhArata mAtA or shAnti nilava vENDum -- loved a maitrIm bhajata. Maybe they came after I left.

G_g, I thought you'd come too (as you said so on another thread -- I think your report on Smt Jayanthi's concert)!

Actually I reached Gayana Samaja around 9 15 itself, having gone by PRCM's post on Music and Festivals http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19639 All I had until 10 o'clock was the newspaper for the day. :(
