His composition 'nadamAdittirintha' in Kambhoji ragam is an example of the Nindastuti

style in musical compositions wherein the superficial meaning of the song seems to

ridicule the deity…

Tyagaraja followed this in songs like Adigi sukhamu in Madhyamavathi raga.

What one desires of Sri Rama are not fulfilled…Thyagaraja gives examples of :

Sita’s desire to see hermitages resulting in her suffering in forests….

Surpanakha desired Rama, but she lost her ear and nose ..

Narada’s curiousity to know God's Maya, resulted in his having changed into a woman….

Doorvasa lost his appetite when he asked for food..

Devaki’s desire to have a child to play with resulted in Yasoda’s pleasure..

Gopikakas have to desert their husbands while longing for Krishna..

You are showing this kind of mercy to your devotees…!!!

In the krti ‘vacamagocarame’ – raga kaikavazi, Sri Tyagaraja relates two incidents to illustrate the greatness of Sri Rama.
How is it possible to describe the greatness of Sri Rama? It is beyond words.
Understanding the mind of Seethamma to make a fan out of the deer’s tail, Lord madhava shoots an arrow to sever the tail of the deer. The deer senseing the arrow, turns its neck towards the arrow ,preferring to die and to save its honour rather than losing its hair. Understanding ,what is going on in its mind the Lord, embodiment of Karunya taking pity, sends another arrow to destroy the first arrow which was already on its way to the target.
”First-Understanding one’s mind:
Seetha did not have to ask- He knew (maanavathi madhinerigi).
The deer did not have to ask for 'prana danam'. In fact, quite the opposite, it wanted to offer its life. But He came to its rescue.
Second, the compassion: Saving the deer's life is even more important to him than satisfying the whims of his consort because he is the saviour of the sufferer (dheenaarthi bhanjanudai).
Third, the speed of response (vegame… munnu chanina baanambunattu chedara jeya ledha).
Kamban says 'Edutthadu kandanar, ittradu kettaar' to tell us the speed with which he handled the Shivadhanus. Raamabaana works at literally the manovegam.
Even in these days of ballistic guided missiles, you may not be able to recall or destroy a missile already locked on to its target, before it causes its lethal effect.

Going back to the anupallavi, you will delight at the tale of yet another deer, the Maareecha 'maaya maan'.
Again to fulfill the wish of the Seetha;
But with how different is the result! Naturally, the qualities of such a perfect being are beyond what can be expressed by word or grasped by thought (vaachamagocharame), says Thyagaraaja “

In the song Adamodi..in charukesi raga..Thyagaraja requests Sri Rama to tell him as to the reason why He is not willing to talk to him..
This was the case even with Sri Anjineya..son of Vayu and an Avadar of Shiva....
Sri Rama asked Lakshmana to provide him details about them on Anjineya asking them the details about them when they first met ..( in the vicinity of the mountain Rishyamukha, where Sugriva, along with his followers and friends, are in hiding from his elder brother Vali.)

In the krti ‘kalala nercina’ – raga dipakam , sri Tyagaraja states that man’s efforts do not always pay in the face of destiny, the ways of which is

inscrutable…even if one is well versed an all the 64 arts learnt for a livelyhood..

The result can be only in accordance of what he did in the past and determined by Him…

Sage Singari, having sought and obtained a mountain of sesame seeds could not eat it happily..( details are not available for this reference)

Nor Vibhishana could reach home with the Lord Sri Ranganatha according to his wish..

Thyagaraja …a follower of Gita

It was Ramakrishnar who said repeating the words ‘Gita’ several times will find one saying ‘Ta gi’ which means the one who has renounced everything to God. In effect it is action without desiring the fruits of labour and dedicating everything to Him.
‘He who does the work for me, he who looks upon me as his goal, he who worships me free from attachment and he who nurtures no enmity or ill will,
he goes with me’
This is considered as genuine devotion viz., reliving the mind of complexities and focusing it on Him.

Devotees who had experienced and immersed in’ Supreme Bliss’, who behold the figure of the Lord in their minds, whose voice enthrall the qualities of Hari with knowledge of raga, bhava and laya and also have profound knowledge of Srimad Bhahavatham,Ramayana and Srimad Bhahavad Gita.
Through out his compositions one can see the Bakthi yoga-one of the three yogas propounded in the Gita.

I have heard that Music is considered to be a path of salvation as,
if one sings them with "Sampoorna Bhava and Bhakthi", he realises the supreme soul…..And this Bhava and Bakthi are inbibed in the compositions…
Some say that gamaka is the life blood of Carnatic music and the raga system. Maybe…for pure carnatic Grammer…But , without Bhava and Bakthi….in music, the life’s journey will not be complete…
